Interns Bring Science to Washington, DC

Young scientists with a passion to change the world + Washington, DC, the center of power = transformative experiences.

Student and early-career scientists bring science to the decision-making process. But not just any science: sound, unbiased, and nonpartisan science.

Science to protect communities from floods and earthquakes; science to unlock safe and sustainable energy sources; and science to keep Americans at the forefront of innovation.

You can make a difference by funding AGI’s Geoscience Policy Internship Program!

Help us fund our spring 2017 science policy intern!

For more than 20 years, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has helped young and early-career scientists to interact with the policymaking process on and around Capitol Hill.

Our interns spend 12 to 14 weeks immersing themselves in science policy issues:

·       They attend congressional hearings and briefings on Capitol Hill to learn directly from experts;

·       They participate in meetings with Members of Congress and their staff to understand policy and explain scientific issues; and

·       They write news briefs and feature-length articles to inform the science community about important policy issues.

To help support this transformational program, we need to raise $10,000 by December 31, 2016.

Every dollar counts, and we appreciate your generous contributions to support our incredible interns.

Your donation will make a tremendous impact!

It will help ensure science underpins the policymaking process, and it will transform the lives of many young and talented scientists.

Here’s what some of our former interns had to say about their internship experience:

“Attending hearings and coalition meetings, preparing fact sheets for Congressional office visits, and meeting personally with my legislators gave me a more concrete understanding of how I could engage with and inform the policy process.”

 – Brittany Huhmann, Former AGI Policy Intern

“My time here at AGI has provided me with an entirely new perspective on geoscience. As a geologist, this opportunity has exposed me to the inner-workings of geoscience policy; a new-found interest that I hope to expand upon in the future!”

– Danielle Woodring, Former AGI Policy Intern

"One of my favorite aspects of the internship was that I got to meet many people within the geoscience communication field. Seeing the roles of different players and organizations in communicating scientific principles to politicians and then working with those politicians to encourage federally-funded scientific research showed me the wide array of paths available for my own professional development."

– Archie Creech, Jr., Former AGI Policy Intern

Every dollar will help us fund yet another talented student. Please make a difference to young scientists and the country by donating today.

Thank you very much from all of us!
