I am Willie's wife and POA.
Willie has been diagnosed with
Alzeheimers Disease for over a year,
and with the progression of the
disease the need for more and more care arises. Social Security Disability pays $342.00 per month ,
The cost of care within the last
10 months is greater than 14,000.00.
His spirit is beautiful and he is living a stress free life at home .
Can Willie depend on help from
Family and friends? (It is understood that not everyone has financial means
to help support the cause.)
Peace to all.

I have my first Festival/event of the year in 10 days here in Oregon. I am designating a percentage of the sales of my award winning jewelry for the fund AND have notified all friends and followers from Willie & Lobo's days on Maui to help. Willie ALWAYS provided me the friendship and entertainment I desired EVERY time I went out to see them perform on Maui. His music continues to be my "in shop" creative influence every day. I will do my very best to help!!

Is Willie still with us? (I sure hope so) I saw conflicting posts on FB regarding this. Huge fan...started taking fiddles lessons primarily because of Willie's style. He once offered to send me( back in the AOL days) scores at no charge. I've turned many friends around the country on to Willie and they have thanked me for doing so and some actually got to meet Willie. I never had had the pleasure myself and sincerely hope I still may have a chance to. My favorite contemporary fiddle player by far... exceptionally gifted in the fiddle and wonderously gifted in humanty. You go Willie!

I've just heard that Willie Royal of Willie & Lobo passed away a few days ago. His music had and continues to have such a strong impact on my life, and I'd like to pass on my respects to family and friends. I'm so thankful I was able to see them when they came to Portland many years ago - it was an experience I will always treasure. RIP.

my dears Alison and Willie...my prayer and heart embrace you at this phase of your journey together. I lived 15 years with my mom as her primary caregiver while she carried the insidious AD on her back. It is a mysterious and greedy malady, robbing us all daily of our peace of mind. I met Willie and Lobo in Port Townsend, WA back in early 90's. Their music has been golden light upon our blurried world over the years, a major component in our natural behavior therapy ( right up there with Dean Martin and Patsy Cline! ) I played them at her graveside last year and continue to find solace in the magic they wove throughout their history. It touched me deeply to know that you two have been soldiering this war together. May angels of mercy keep peace in your time ahead. Blessings rain upon you, dear Alison. Thank you, Willie, for your spirit and flair, your genius and love. Rachael Gabriel

Allison, I just came back from San Miguel, while there I stayed in a Villa at Los Labradores which is 10 miles from San Miguel. They have an Alzheimer's facility there (Cielito Lindo) which provides transitional living or fulltime care for their patients, many expats live there or in San Miguel with their loved ones in the facility. I toured it while there, spoke to many who had family in the facility and all were Impressed with the care provided. It is my understanding that it is inexpensive compared to facilities in the US. As Willie, has such a connection with SMA, I thought it would be worth mentioning if you didn't know about it and might be worth checking out by going online or having Moo Moo go and see it. They have a nice promotional video online.

You might want to pursue a Medicaid waiver for Assisted Living. Likely he can qualify for that. If he doesn't have it complete the application. His care then would be mostly free except for personal items etc see if the home you are talking with accepts Medicaid waivered ALF. Feel free to contact me to talk if u like!!

What an amazing musician. I absolutely love his music. I got to see Willie and Lobo at Mama Mia's for New Year's eve in 1995. I will never forget seeing him in that place. My heart is with you and thank you for making his life so peaceful in the end.

If you are on this page, you are learning or already know about the loss of such a special person, Willie Royal. My name is Mandi Hagler and I have had the pleasure of knowing Ali Royal (Willie’s wife) for the last 13 + years. I write with such a heavy heart, as I have watched my dear friend walk the steps of such a painful process of this loss, and the slow goodbye of Willie’s mind through this process. Ali is a nurse, she is a care giver, and has a bigger heart than anyone I know. When we went through nursing school together, I looked forward to sitting next to her and our friend Lora every day. We had a special bond and through it all, Ali told us, “do nice things for yourself” and “take care of yourself” and “this too shall pass.” Ali has put her life on hold through this slow death of Willie. She has put him first and herself last. She has put off working so she could be there with him. She took him outdoors, brought him ice cream, and made sure he was able to stay home as long as possible with their dog and cat. Ali stayed up sometimes all night with Willie as his Alzheimer’s escalated at night. I took such comfort, after learning of Willie’s passing, when Ali told me she had “no regrets.” She has no regrets because she has put everything on hold and took care of her soul mate when he needed her. When she told me this, I thought of 3 phrases that one of the best physicians I’ve ever met used when it came to empathy. 1. Wow 2. That must be really hard 3. I Can’t imagine This has taken a financial toll on Ali. I won’t go into details out of respect for my friend, but she needs help right now. She has not been able to work because caring for Willie has been much more than a full time job. Medical bills have been astronomical, and now she has to pay for cremation and other expense that occur with his death. I am asking for people to consider a random act of kindness for Ali in memory of Willie. The smallest amount would be greatly appreciated by her. She is too humble to ask, so I am asking for her. If you are unable to give, please pray for her. Have empathy for her, please pray that she is able to take care of herself, and know that this too shall pass. She always does the right thing for other people, let’s do the right thing for her. After all, wow, she lost Willie, her best friend and soul mate. That must be really hard. I truly can’t imagine. The link to Ali’s go fund me page is: https://www.gofundme.com/9znmgp4k God bless everyone that has and will helped Ali and now the spirit of Willie Royal. All my love, Mandi Hagler
