Help give autism therapy to a child

Why support a family in need of Autism Therapy?

Children with Autism are struggling all over the world to function independently and adapt to an environment that is unforgiving and unkind at times.  Their brains were made differently than everybody elses.  They just want to be accepted.  They want to be included.  They want to thrive like any other child does.  Unfortunately, many are left behind, swept to the side and bullied.  Many of these children haven't had the opportunity to be given the tools to survive in a fast pace world we live in.  But today, I want to change that.  I want to give these kids every opportunity to be the best they can be.  Why? Because no child should be left behind.  No child is better than any other.

What is Autism spectrum disorder? Why can't you get the help for it?

“Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is considered the third most common developmental disorder in the world and now affects 1 in 68 children.  Boys are 5 times more likely to be diagnosed with ASD with 1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls.  ASD is a neurological disorder that affects brain function and can impact communication, gross motor skills, socialization, and many other functions of the brain. There is no cure.” This neurological disorder affects all people regardless of age, gender or race.  Studies have shown that those who are lucky enough to receive autism therapy have a better chance of increasing their ability in functioning independently.  Further studies have shown that early intervention (age 2-7) is the most effective period to start this therapy and “maximize the positive impact of the intervention.”  Consequently, in Ontario there is a 2 to 4 year wait for these government funded autism services.  Moreover, children are typically diagnosed as early as 2 years old but due to the waiting period are missing up to 80% of the most effective learning years. Families are forced to pay out of pocket for autism therapy to give their children a chance to a brighter future.  The average cost for private therapy ranges anywhere from $20,000 to $60,000 per year. This cost is too great for the average Canadian family.   The Autism Community needs your help!

  Who is Autism Superpowers?

“Autism Superpowers” is a social media group created to connect parents with autistic children to each other and to professionals. The goal is to transfer knowledge, offer support, understanding and share life experiences along with successful developmental strategies amongst its members.  With each new member, the group reaches a new level of support and knowledge.  Together, as we lift our souls from the struggle that we see in our children, we empower one another and advocate for those without a voice.

What’s the purpose of this event? How will I fundraise? Where will the money go?

On March 19, 2016 I will be hosting a “Sensory Friendly” Easter event for children who have ASD.  It will be a great way for our children to connect and work on their socialization skills in a safe, fun and controlled environment that is sensitive to their needs.  It is also a great opportunity for parents and professionals to get together to network and share their knowledge and experiences in person.  In conjunction with this event, a group of loving individuals called "Journey from the Heart" will be collecting items for the homeless. Finally and most importantly, it will be a great way to raise funds and donate to a therapist of choice for a child in need of autism therapy. Let's make this happen! Let's secure a brighter future for these children. Don't let them get left behind!

If you prefer to write a cheque instead, please make cheques payable to "Autism Superpowers".   Please message me for the mailing address.

Thank you for your support and making a difference for a child in need!
