I had a difficult start to my life. I was born prematurely and I have cerebral palsy spastic diplegia. As a result of physical abuse from a caregiver in 2002, I’m now a paraplegic and have permanent, painful injuries.
For fifteen years, I’ve tried unsuccessfully to get a better job that is doing something that I enjoy, is able to challenge me and help me expand my skill set, and help me pay for my disability related expenses on my own. I would prefer to work rather than sit at home and do nothing all day. There are some months where being able to afford food and my utilities is a giant challenge. I make just enough not to be able to qualify for the assistance programs that are available but not enough for paying my utilities and food, etc. without it being a giant challenge.
My family didn’t have much when I was growing up but we had just enough to make it each month with nothing to spare. Many people think that I should live now how I grew up-with just enough to get by each month. I want something more out of my life. I want to be a productive member of society and live my life the way that I want to instead of someone else dictating it for me. I want to be able to afford the disability related items and equipment and life’s necessities on my own.
I never ask for something that I don’t need and that I can’t medically justify as necessary. Right now, I’m being told by Anthem/Blue Cross, my insurance company, that a Hill-Rom VersaCare bed and P500 mattress is not medically necessary when my doctor and I have proven that these items are necessary. The items that Anthem/Blue Cross is saying would satisfy my needs would end up putting me in the hospital within days of me using them-guaranteed besides causing me to have unbearable pain. The other state disability resources will not pay for it either even though the need has been medically justified.
The bed and mattress that I’m trying to get would help me stay out of the hospital, help with pain management, help me sleep at night because I only get three hours of sleep a night, have a better quality of life even with my disabilities, and with the bed and mattress, I will be able to continue to work for years to come.
In recent years, I’ve had so many of my goals and dreams destroyed because of other people’s actions. I can count on my hand the things that I’ve had in my life that I’ve actually wanted and hoped for. My hope is that I can achieve goals in 2016. It is my hope that, at some point, I can enjoy my life after all of the hell that I have been through.
Here’s the links to the items that I need. I can’t afford them. I can barely afford life’s daily necessities. Can anyone help me with the cost of the bed, mattress, and new bedding for the bed? I’m trying to raise the necessary funds to buy the bed, mattress, and new bedding as soon as possible. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
