Louie's Surgery

Donation protected
Update: Louie was doing great. He recovered naturally from his infection and we were given the okay to move forward without any form of surgery. However, last night (10/1), a bone left over from his amputation pierced his skin, leaving it exposed and infected. We took him to the vet this morning and were told that the surgery to fix his amputation is necessary and needs to happen as soon as possible. We scheduled it for Tuesday, 10/9, with no way to pay for it. We were completely caught off guard, being that this was something we thought we had conquered together. We were blown away with the amount of support we received for this little guy. When we found out he didn't need a surgery, we refunded the money, thinking that we would never need it.  We're asking for any support that can help us with this unexpected turn of events.

This is Louie. He’s our one year old little kitty who needs a surgery to complete the amputation of his right leg. Before we adopted him, he was in a terrible accident that required surgery by a non-profit shelter. Financially, I thought we were set to bring Louie home. About three months into his life with us, we noticed a mass of fur under where his arm used to be. After three vet visits, and two failed antibiotics, we learned that pieces of his arm were not fully removed from the first surgery and now require a second surgery due to an aggressive infection. In addition, he has heart disease and a heart murmur. After calling his shelter for more information and support, we were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements in order to get funding for his surgery. When we said that we were uncomfortable with that, they said that the offer was off the table and the only way to get him a surgery by the shelter was to give him up for adoption with no promise of getting him back. After going back and forth with them, we decided to cut ties and find a way to get him this surgery without re-homing him. We are now using our savings and credit cards to get him his surgery so he can go on living his life here with us. His unexpected health issues are leaving us with nothing saved and just enough money for rent. His vet bill will be $1,300 with a preliminary visit and follow ups with medication. He will go in for surgery on August 14th and should be ready to go home by that afternoon or the next day. We are looking for anything that anyone can give to help. The slightest bit makes a difference.
