A Dental Implant For John Sakars

Donation protected

Hello, my friend. My name is John Sakars. I am 45 and live in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

When I was a child, I used to help my stepfather make an ice rink in our backyard every winter. One day, a friend from school came over to skate on the rink with me. I was around 13 years old. He wasn't a very good skater, so he amused himself by swinging his hockey stick around like he was a helicopter. His hockey stick hit me in the mouth hard. There was blood on the ice. My left front tooth dropped down a little bit. It was very wiggly. I thought maybe it would fall out, but after a while my gums hardened up around the tooth again and it stayed in my mouth.

Then about five years later, that tooth got infected and I was told I needed a root canal, so I got one.  Then when I was 32, part of the enamel from that tooth fell off. I was told I needed a crown, so I got one. The crown lasted for a few years, then one day when I was eating pistachios, the tooth broke off right to the gums. In hindsight, since the root canal had hollowed out that tooth, my old dentist should have put a post in that tooth before he put a crown on it. So, I got a removable tooth when I was about 35.

I've had some fun with the removable tooth, taking it out and licking it in a "sexy" way for a laugh. However, the tooth has also been annoying. My mouth produces lots of spit with this big plastic thing in my mouth, possibly because my body thinks it's a piece of food that needs to be digested. I love making videos and uploading them to YouTube and Vimeo, and I find it frustrating that whenever I record, I have to swallow a lot to get rid of the spit. It makes recording take longer than it should take. I know I am not a great singer, but my music videos have gotten viewed millions of times and allow me to reach people all around the world with important messages. I sing mostly about veganism and animal advocacy issues, but I sing about other social justice issues too.

Getting an implant would do wonders for my life. I would no longer have to worry about sneezes sending my removable tooth flying out of my mouth. Most importantly, it would be easier for me to sing and speak in my videos.

My dentist told me an implant will cost $2,500 Canadian. If you can even spare just $5 or $10 for a dental implant for me, I would be very grateful.  If I could have the money by February 25th, that would be great, but if it takes a little longer, that's fine too. Every time you see me smile in a photo or video, you can know that you helped put that new tooth into my mouth. Also, after I get a dental implant, I will auction off my old removable tooth as an interesting conversation starter, and I will donate the money to an animal advocacy group. And if this GoFundMe page brings in more than $2,500 Canadian, I will donate the extra money to an animal advocacy group.

Besides making vegan videos, I do other activism too. To date, I have handed out 178,738 Vegan Outreach leaflets at colleges in Canada, the United States, and Australia as a volunteer. I have also participated in many marches and protests to speak up for the animals.  If you can help me acquire a new front tooth, I will do my best to pay your kindness forward. Thanks for reading. I wish you all the best.

Love, John
