Hi Everyone,
My name is Vicky Rahmic I live in Perth, Australia and I am Australian Macedonian and married to Adnan Rahmic who is from Zapolje, Bosna we have been together for over 12 years. We have family over there that has recently lost their houses due to the severe flooding.
My husband and I were having coffee on Friday morning talking about what a tragedy it is and asking the question how will they get through this? They still havent recovered from the war and probably never will. I suggested that we see what the response would be if we asked the greater community to contribute to everyone because in a time of need like this the only thing we can do from Australia is donate money as it is too expensive and a long process to send goods. So we set up the facebook page "HELP THE BOSNIAN FLOOD VICTIMS" the help and generosity has been huge. We update our members with whats happening and them to be involved.
We want the money to as direct as possible to the people and are looking at donating to legitimate organisations that will help ALL affected. At the current time we have pomozi.ba and red cross and strong candidates.
Unfortunately they dont live in the "lucky" country like us in Australia, these people have lost loved ones from the war and have had to pick up the pieces and rebuild only to loose all their possessions & houses again.
I urge EVERYONE from Australia and beyond to help these people in need, when it comes to raising money all of us can spare $1.00 or more. Each one of us wastes our money on materialist things that really mean nothing a few weeks later, we upgrade our iphones, we buy our lunch, even buying a bottle of water, we go out on the weekend and blow our money on alcohol, smokes, dinners ect and we forget what it was like to be in their shoes and keep going on with our lives. These people have no communication at the moment with the outside world, please read the link I posted.
At the moment we are looking at better ways to get the money to the people without having the donations eaten up in administration costs. Any assistance or ideas into legitimate organisations is most welcome.
No matter who you are, where you come from or what religion you are in times like this we need to come together and make a difference a life is a life.
Australia has given us all the opportunity to come here to live a better life, however, we all have family and friends that are not fortunate enough and need our help. So please dig deep and give to a worthy cause.
