Helping Nico

Donation protected
Nicholas "Nico" Rivera is 18 yrs old. He was born at 31 weeks at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida . He was diagnosed with a disease known as Alport Syndrome it is a hereditary disease that is in the X chromosome. He has been watched by nephrologist all his life.  He attended Vanguard High School in Ocala, and was on the football team. He graduated this past June and currently he attends Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fl.  He dreams to be a fire fighter.  He been came ill around 4 weeks ago with strep throat, & took antibiotics. His roommates all passed along the virus, but then it hit Nico again the second time. He tried antibiotics again only to have changes in urination and went back to Doctors and his creatine level was at 7.9, which normal level is 1.4. Nico is in kidney failure. He was admitted immediately to ORMC. (Ocala Reginal Medical Center) After Doctors here in Ocala, Florida consulted, they sent him to Shands to be placed on transplant list so that he could avoid dialysis at all cost.. Currently he is admitted into Shands where his Creatine numbers are daily between 5.9 and 7.9. On Monday, November 13, 2017, he will have biopsy to rule out 3 reason he has gone into failure. Alports, Medicine induced, or a new auto immune disorder. At this point this all has to be done to help him. He is on high doses of steroids to try & keep his creatinine levels low enough that he will not have to go on dialysis. Right now he has about 30% usage of his kidneys. That would be ok, but not with creatine level so high. The end Goal will be putting Nico on a transplant list and getting him normal functioning kidney.
Nico's Mom lives in North Carolina, with his 3 siblings, she was able to get the week off from work to be with Nico, but today November 11, she had to return back home because of work. She so much wants to be able to be with her son, but financially that's not possible. I started this gofund me to help them with whatever expenses have already and will continue to occur. The travel to and from Florida, medical bills (already sky high!), hopefully the kidney transplant he desperately needs,  etc. Just think....if this was your child, nephew, cousin, friend, school mate, neighbor, what would you want people to donate? I understand if you can't donate. But every little bit helps. Even if you can only donate $1.00, it all adds up. Please find it in your heart to help Nico. I know if you were to ever get a chance to meet him you would want to help him fight for his life.  Most of all Please keep Nico in your thought & Prayers! Thank you & God Bless!
