On Thursday, June 7th, my Shih Tzu "V" became ill. He was perfectly fine, then developed symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, with lethargy. He was refusing food and just lying around. My sister and I took care of him all night in shifts to see if it would pass.
By the next morning, his symptoms had greatly worsened, he was unable to move, had difficulty breathing, and was passing nothing but blood. We rushed him to the animal hospital and was told he had a severe case of gastroenteritis. The vet was able to rule out other causes, but he still needed emergency treatment.
Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) is a disease of dogs characterized by sudden vomiting and bloody diarrhea. The symptoms are usually severe, and HGE can be fatal if not treated.
The doctor said V needed inpatient care to stablize him and save his life, but we didn't have enough money to cover the expenses. Thankfully, they took what money we had on us as a deposit and admitted our baby to immediately give him the treatment he needed to save his life.
He's not completely out of the woods yet, and we should know more tomorrow, but it looks like he will be okay.
Now we need help getting funds to pay the animal hospital, after they were so kind to help him although we didn't have the payment.
This is our estimate of charges. It could come out higher, depending on how long they keep him in the hospital and other tests or treatments they need to do, but right now, this is where it's at.
I had to sign a promise to pay $1,075 (the highest end of the estimate + services already rendered) and we've paid $160 so far. We have only a very short time to pay the balance down so we can bring our dog home healthy again and we appreciate any help.
