Seth Apel Recovery Fund

Seth Apel is an amazing 12 year old boy. He lives in Knox, PA with his parents and 5 siblings. He loves being outdoors, hunting, building things with his brothers and working with his Dad.  He wants to be a chef someday. He's a typical energetic boy with a grand imagination and endless ambition.  Anyone who has met him will tell you he is a kind, thoughtful, inquisitive boy.  Likewise, anyone who knows the Apels will tell you they are the most genuine, generous, faithful, kind and caring family you will ever meet.

On November 7th Seth was involved in a horrific machinery accident at his home and his right arm was completely severed. Thankfully his Grandfather was there and was able to administer aid and call for help. Through a long series of miracles, Seth survived and was taken to Children's Hospital in Pittsburg, where he is still in intensive care. Doctors there were able to successfully reattach his arm and restore the blood flow. As you can imagine, there is no way to know at this point how successful the surgery was or what his longterm recovery will be like. He is still in the ICU and Dr.'s are optimistic, but still very concerned about his condition. There is still a significant risk of infection and other potential complications. At best, Seth is looking at many more surgeries and a long painful road of rehabilitation and recovery therapy.

Seth's parents are awesome and seem to be taking it all better than anyone could ever imagine.  They are adamant in their faith and are asking for your prayers above all else. Seth's mother Angie has posted several times that she hopes Seth's accident can be used to for good and has expressed their unwavering faith in God to restore Seth's heath. Even during this incredibly trying time, his family has been an amazing example of how to deal with a horrible situation.

The family has specifically asked for cards and well-wishes to be sent to Seth so he can see the support he has from the community. You can send cards to the hostpital at:

Seth Apel
c/o Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
Room 602
One Children's Hospital Drive
4401 Penn Ave.

You can also send an e-card through the hospital website and they will print the cards and deliver them to his room. The link for e-cards is:

If you prefer to send cards or gifts to the family, please contact us directly and we'll forward their home address. There is also  Facebook page dedicated to his recovery where friends plan to update his progress. You can reach the page directly at:

Obviously the family needs your prayers and support more than anything. They have already expressed their gratitude and can undoubtedly use all of it we can provide. The family knows that prayers are Seth's greatest hope for a successful recovery. Unfortunately, we also know that Seth's recovery is going to be extremely expensive. While the family is understandably focused on Seth and his current condition, the substancial medical bills will inevitably start to mount. The family is already dealing with a lot, and by contributing we call help make a terrible situation a little easier to deal with.  When dealing with a tragedy like this, the last thing parents should have to be concerned with is how to pay for their child's recovery.   I'd love to see everyone come together and relieve this burden completely. If you are unable to provide financial support, please send a card, letter or post a message here or on the Facebook page to let the family know you are thinking of them.

Above all, we wish Seth and his family the best and pray for a complete and speedy recovery!
