The $8 Squishy Challenge!

$4,186 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 129 people in 23 months

In 2011, Paw Prints Private Rescue began as a small all breeds cat and dog rescue group in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Squishies Flat Faced Cat Rescue was founded in 2012, to give flat faced cats all the special care they need and to find them homes that understand the commitment they require. After 4 years of running Paw Prints and Squishies Cat Rescue side by side, we have now merged the two groups creating Squishies Flat Faced Animal Rescue Incorporated.

As a result of the hundreds and hundreds of animals we have taken in over the past 7 years, we have an outstanding vet bill at Maroondah Vet Clinic of over $28,000.  As hard as we try to reduce this enormous bill, with animals still coming into care, we just cannot find the money to continue to save lives and pay off the debts of the hundreds of animals that are now living happily ever after in their forever homes.

In addition to this, Squishies Headquarters, which is the nerve centre of the rescue and also houses our perma-squishies and the bulk of animals in care at any time; is relocating. This is a huge financial drain on our founder, who is personally covering all relocation costs for the rescue, reducing the amount of money she has to put into the costs of running the rescue, feeding the animals and paying the vet bills.

We are asking that you please consider making a donation towards our outstanding vet bill, to allow us to continue to rescue, without having to think about how much an animal will add to our massive vet bill, before deciding if we can take them on.

If each of our Squishies Facebook followers donated just $8, our bill would be gone! Can you imagine that?! A fresh start for the vet bill would allow us to expand the rescue and help even more Squishies in need. Have you had $8 worth of enjoyment from seeing our posts and following the journeys of our Squishies?!

Literally all it will take is just $8 each. This would also mean that we could spend more time posting photos, updates and videos, because we wouldn’t have to spend the little spare time we can find, fundraising for the outstanding bill!
More rescued Squishies, more photos and updates of rescued Squishies and a clean slate on the vet bill, so we don’t have to think about costs when asked to help a Squishy in need. All that for $8 each! Can you spare $8 for the Squishies?!

Greetings, Squishy Fans! :)

We have now adjusted our goal, after a lot of additional fundraising and we now have less than $12,000 to raise to be vet debt free!

This means, we need just 1500 more Squishy Fans to accept the $8 Squishy Challenge and donate to our fundraiser!
A donation would make a wonderful and unique Secret Santa/Kris Kringle gift and we would be happy to have one of our rescue animals personally thank the recipient by way of a photo on our social media, or alternatively we could provide a Squishies gift tag to present them!
Please share and donate if you can! xx

Greetings, Squishy fans! :)

We are still drowning in vet debt and our "8 Squishy Challenge" has stalled over the last few months. We have lots of new animals in care that require vet treatment and unfortunately this means the bill has started to go up again, instead of coming down. Our latest arrivals, Bonsai and Winston would like to urge you to donate to our fundraiser so we can save even more gorgeous Squishies in need! xo

Greeting to all our wonderful supporters!
We are still struggling to get on top of our massive vet bill and our situation has been made even more (adorably) dire, with the arrival of the amazing Mr Augie!
Last month we were informed that a "healthy young Exotic Shorthair" was being surrendered to a vet clinic and were asked if we would take him on. Of course we said yes and eagerly awaited the call to say he had arrived, but nothing could have prepared us for that call. Instead of a healthy cat, Augie had been surrendered with the worst case of cat flu the vet clinic had ever seen and with the cornea of his left eye actually hanging off. The vet clinic informed us that if we didn't authorise them to immediately removing the damaged eye, they would euthanise him, as the pain and suffering he was enduring was beyond anything an animal should be subjected to.
Obviously we immediately agreed to them removing his eye and this cost $635, that we had painstakingly fundraised and earmarked for our enormous vet bill.

When Augie arrived we learned that a very questionable corneal graft had been done on his remaining eye in the past and he had almost no sight in that eye. Within hours of arriving, we knew there was something else that wasn’t quite right with Augie. He wasn't responding to sound and appeared to be deaf. Preliminary tests at our vet showed that with the exception of some high frequencies, Augie is deaf, something that his previous owner appears to have never noticed.
Things went from bad to worse for poor Augie when upon examination it became apparent that the corneal graft on his remaining eye had been done over the top of a corneal sequestra. This means the person who did his graft, attached it to a scab, rather than to healthy corneal tissue and there is every chance this graft will fail as a result. As we don't know when the graft was done or by whom, at this stage we can only monitor it for any changes so we have something for our specialist to go on. Once we know if/how fast the graft is failing, we will set about doing everything possible to save Augie's remaining eye, although it is unlikely he will ever regain anymore sight than he already has.
We are utterly amazing and astounded by Augie every single day. He is a happy, playful, joyous boy, despite the hell he had endured, prior to coming to Squishies.
We are asking you to help us by donating if you can and by sharing Augie’s story and our GoFundMe page, in the hopes that we can clear as much of our outstanding vet bill as possible, before the very expensive task of trying to save Augie’s remaining eye begins. xo

Greetings, Squishy Fans! :)

We are so incredibly grateful to all who have so far donated to our $8 Squishy Challenge! We still have a long way to go, so please keep sharing and donate if you can!
Gorgeous Coffey has serious cardiac issues and will need to see a specialist and as they need to be paid for on the day, we will have even less money to put towards our outstanding vet bill :(

We have raised just over 10% of our target and I hope that with the support of our wonderful Squishy loving community, we can get there!
