THE VAULT: ONE HORSE AT A TIME
In 2011, I started THE VAULT: Horse racing past and present. As you may know, THE VAULT is a non-profit website. I haven't made a dime from articles that have been enjoyed worldwide, including credit by PAULICK REPORT (USA). My mentor is Steve Haskin, who has unfailingly supported my efforts from the very beginning.
Now, I'd like to use my writing to help desperate horses, ponies, donkeys and mules to find forever homes. Places where they will be respected and loved.
I know that I can't save every horse, but as one person I'm doing what I can. If this initiative reaches others, I know that together we can help to change a tragedy that takes place each and every day at horse auctions and slaughter houses in North America and around the world.
Please join me and show your appreciation for THE VAULT, as well as for the horses you've loved.
Every dollar counts and no donation is too small.
Please be assured that any money raised will only be used to support horse rescue and a regular report will be published on THE VAULT.
Thank you so much for supporting this effort and helping to change the culture, one horse at a time!
From the heart,
The profit from the sale of the Pharoah prints was used to bring comfort to a young couple, John and Jessie Kunz, in a really special way, The Kunz's rescued BEAR WITNESS, a son of the great Lady's Secret by Skip Away, and grandson of SECRETARIAT, from a feedlot a few weeks ago. "BEAR" was in terrible shape. The Kunz's were working on bringing him back to health when he fell in his paddock and couldn't get up. He was humanely euthanized just hours later.
I decided, with the help of a friend of THE VAULT, Jim Pettyjohn, to adopt a BLM (mustang) mare in honour of BEAR WITNESS. Not only did we adopt this young mare, who had been in captivity for 4 of her 5 years, but we also adopted her best friend, another mare of the same age. Then, with the support of the incredible Susan Watt of Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, our "girls" will be transported to South Dakota, where they will run free for the rest of their lives.
These beautiful mares now have names: MAYA LITTLEBEAR (shown below in close-up) and FELICITAS WITNESS. So, you see, BEAR WITNESS' spirit will live on through them. The Kunz's are delighted (and named Felicitas at our request).
As for HALE (our poster boy, shown above), his owner reports that he is one happy (and sometimes goofy) horse, who is going to be started under saddle shortly with a professional trainer!
Thank you to all those who bought Pharoah prints and donated to THE VAULT. Our important work continues.
Hello everyone. VAULT readers and yours truly helped to save this blue roan mare and her unborn foal (please see photo below) from slaughter yesterday. Since then, another 110.00 CAD in donations have been received. The next round of donations will go to professional horse rescues once we have enough to really help out. Thank you so much for your continued support! We're making a difference for animals that would otherwise go to slaughter. HALE, our poster boy, is absolutely thriving! His owner reports that he's gained weight, seen a farrier and a vet, and is getting over his wary attitude so fast that he now follows her around. HALE has also made friends with her other horse, the sweet SONNY.
