After carving out our spot in the Downtown Market at 45 S. French Broad Ave. for over three years, the time has come to move on. With the sale of the building, Hi-Fi is losing its home. After serious reflection, Aaron and I have decided not to push forward with trying to move and re-envision Hi-Fi.

While we've had some amazing contributions to the relocation fund, we're no where close to the amount needed to keep Hi-Fi a reality. The lack of tangible support has been surprising and disappointing, but oddly enough, a good thing. It's given us the opportunity to step back and look hard at our "why." What we've seen is that our main reason for fighting to keep Hi-Fi alive is other people: our regulars. It's not for us. It's not what we want. Asheville has been great overall, but we are honestly tired of the fickle food culture here. We just don't have the heart to start over and keep fighting for every inch. We've been building up Hi-Fi with the intention of finding someone with the desire and passion to take it over. That hasn't worked out, and we'd rather be in integrity with what we really want than stay another couple years to get the new location going. We really want to travel!

This realization has been difficult, bittersweet, and liberating -- simultaneously!! It feels right. While we aren't leaving Asheville with Hi-Fi intact and shining merrily on, we're at peace with that part of the plan changing. We'll stay open through July, and then close the doors. It's been a great three and a half year run. We've learned so much, had a great time, and made wonderful connections. It's time for a new chapter.

We have an idea of what direction we're headed next. My mom just moved back to the family homestead in Efland with my brother, and three of my sisters live in Durham. So we're planning to head east, probably around August, and help my mom and brother get the farm going again. We've been wanting to get our hands in the dirt and try out some different sustainability projects, and this is a perfect opportunity. It'll be great to be with family and have the chance to breathe.. And you know Aaron. He already has several ideas for new business ventures out there!

We are happily returning money and donations to our supporters. Some people have asked us to keep donations to support our own personal relocation fund, so we will be altering the auction to reflect that change. Thank you for your love and support. It's been an honor to be part of so many lives.
