Chennai a culturally throbbing metro in south India housing 7 million people is going through a testing monsoon season with rainfall crossing 1300 mm so far and expecting 400mm more in the coming days (all in 2 weeks time). That number rubs shoulders with the **annual** rainfall of UK - usually wet throuhgout the year.

Declared a disaster zone, the Indian Army, Police, Fire fighters and the spirited locals are engaged in the rescue and food distribution missions.

Spirit of Chennai:

Continuos downpour and flood has impeded transport of rescue boats to flooded areas but not the spirit and humanity of people.

By passers form a human chain to rescue a lady

Seasoned swimmers & trekkers from general public in swim & rescue ops in the absence of boats

*People opening up houses for public.
*Doctors offering to help when they themselves are just as victimized
*Public/private establishments opening to host those stranded
*General public operating several local rescue crews for the past few weeks irrespective of caste/ language/ locality
*All those unfortunate souls thousands of miles across doing their part by hosting help lines, recharging mobile phones and developing ad-hoc forms n APIs to support the food/shelter and rescue operations

I work for a bank in Plano, TX, USA. My friends and relatives live in Chennai, and I lived in Chennai for about 9 years through my undergraduation and work life as well. This is my attempt to help people get back on their feet and support each other under such testing times.

I narrowed down the recipient of the donations through my friends who are volunteers on the ground in Chennai. Once the campaign closes, I will transfer the donations to my account in USA and then do a wire transfer to the recipients through XOOM transfer. The recipients will identify the benefactors of the donations and spend the donations accordingly. 

How funds will be used?
The funds will then be available for the NGO to spend on basic amenities for the stranded (Provisions, bed sheets, clothes, towels, plastic mats and wash kits are being supplied to children and families in the communities we serve).
