By now many of you may know, but for those of you who don't, on October 7, 2018, I experienced every mothers' worse nightmare.  My son, Todd Rauckman was involved in a motorcycle accident and was airlifted to a nearby hospital with multiple injuries.  While scrambling to get on the first flight from FL to St. Louis, MO I waited for his brother, Josh and his best friend, Billy Petterson to keep me updated.  After initial tests I received word that his CT did not show significant brain bleed or spinal injury.  We all, family and friends, took our first real breath.
However, a few days later when Todd did not wake up from sedation, the doctors, through process of elimination and with an MRI, determined Todd was suffering from DAI (Diffuse Axonal Injury), a severe brain injury.  Recovery from this type of injury cannot be predicted, nor is there a measurement for how fully he will recover.
We were told Todd may or may not wake up, it was possible we may not see any recognizable responses for 2-3 months and some people never recover.  This news was terrifying.
Todd has begun showing small signs of recovery and we all keep praying for the best possible outcome.  As the doctors have warned there will be steps forward and steps back all a part of the healing and recovery process.
We are hoping to maintain Todd's home (so he has a home to come home to), and keep his bills paid.  Things like Social Security Disability will take 5-6 months to begin paying and in the meantime his medical bills have begun to pour in and his normal bills will need to be paid. The question of Todd's future employment, like his recovery is something only time will tell.
As Todd mother I will be administering this account and making sure the funds are dispersed in a way that will help him now and in the future.
There is no such thing as a gift too small, every donation matters and goes so far to support our effort to help Todd in this difficult time.
I cannot begin to tell everyone of you how thankful we, Todd's family, are for all the prayers and positive thoughts you send his way each and every day.
We will be forever grateful
