Melissa has been diagnosed with I.T.P. At the age of 10. I.T.P. Is a blood disorder in wich the immune system destroys platelets, which are necessary for normal blood clotting. Persons with the disease have few more platelets in the blood. This meens that the blood does not coagulate which can cause excessive and interbal bleeding.
Since the age of ten Melissa has already been through alot of treatments and daily medications to try and battle the ilness like a sleenoctomy, a bone marrow extraction, blood and platelets transfusion with no luck on helping her recover. At this point her next option is to get a bone marrow transplant wich is where are platelets are formed. But this is a big surgery and could take months to recover. She will attend the Ottawa General Hospital for her transplant. For that she will need to go through chymo and many other treatments along the way.
Melissa has been through alot in the past with her ilness. Weather it's spending days in and out of hospitals from Kap to Ottawa or missing out on events like playing her favorite sport to miss classes because she was realy sick, is hard. But Melissa is a strong and courageous person she never quits and works hard to accomplish her daily life tasks. She has always worked hard in school and got good grades. Even if she had to do her homework in between treatments or stay up late to finish that big project she did it. This effort finaly payed off with graduating high school in the same amount of time than other and with amazing grades. Then came the time for college which at the time did not seem like an option for her but, she had a dream. A dream of becoming a nurse and try to help other people as much as she has been helped. She started her first year of nursing school in Kap in september 2014. Her first year went great and she finished with amazing grades as always. But unfortunatly in her second year she got sicker and sicker and just last week with three months away from graduation she was sent to Ottawa. After her tests this is when they decided she will need a bone marrow transplant and this meens she can not finish her program because she will be in the hospital for 4 to 6 months.
At this point we are asking for family, friends and the community to come together and show there suport for Melissa in helping on raising money for her. Any kind act of suport will be greatly appreciated.
