Update - Bill is in great spirits and elated by your love and support - let's now make a push to help raise enough money for recovery!  We can't thank you enough!

Ray

Hello friends,

This is Ray Alba, long time cyclist and good friend of Bill Montgomery, a cyclist and man that I believe every serious NY area cyclists should know or knows.

Bill recently confided to me that he has stomach cancer and that the odds of him beating it are good but, that it would take a fight and may require surgery at some point in time.  Well the time is now and sadly, even with insurance, the burden of paying for surgery and medical attention isn't pretty.

Currently Bill is fast tracked for surgery this Thursday 1/14/16 and he must come up with at least 7 to 10, 000 dollars as payment to the surgeon; a surgeon that will not remove Bill's entire stomach and one that has perfected a technique so that Bill can survive and have better outcomes for success. He will also have 80% of his stomach rather than none.

Why am I telling you this?  Because Bill is a friend and he has been there for the cycling community providing selfless acts of help to enable us cyclist to race. He was there for us and now it's time to help a fellow cyclist and friend but, I can't do it alone. I need your help. Bill needs it and needs it now.

We have all lost too many friends to cancer and it would pain me if we lose another one so soon that we can prevent.  We all should want Bill to survive and provide him with the best outcome.

Please help by making a contribution to this GoFundMe page or email me at ralba1998@yahoo.com for alternative ways you can help.

Thank you,

Ray Alba

Hello Friends,

Ray here again and I have once again thank you for all the help you have provided to Bill and for some, continuing to do so.

Yesterday I finally made time to meet with Bill and I can say he is looking good but, has a long way to go. A long way to go but, a light truly is at the end of the tunnel and there are signs to recovery. Things will never be the same for Bill but, he remains very positive.

In the last few weeks Bill has mustered up the energy to MC the White Plains Race and the Harlem Criterium which is on today at Marcus Garvey Park.

As many of you know and some of you like me have done, Harlem is the premier NYC race in Manhattan, with a long history of exciting crashes and finishes. So come out to not only root for great local racing (with some international competitors too) but, come to say hello to Bill and too give him a hug. He can use those hugs and hellos for sure.

Also, I want to give a shout out to the Bressler twins (Yakov and Moshe) for really going out of their way to meet with Bill. They don't really know him but, read about Bill, his contributions to this sport over the years and realized that this was a person that they had to help. You might have seen the Yakov or Moshe riding and racing in the city area, great people with big hearts. You can read more about their team and mission on their "Kosher Cyclists" Facebook page. Give their page a like, or thank them when you see them on the road.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that Bill can still use your help. He is shy about asking people for their help. Odd, in that he doesn't come off as shy but, I see so much of Bill in me as neither of us ask for help when it comes to ourselves but, we are so willing to help others, even when we can't. Bill still needs your help and support. Visit him, keep him company, call him, send him a message, or even snail mail. This type of support is essential to recovery. Also, if you can and he can really use more financial support, please donate to the GoFundMe page.

We have raised the bar to 60K and if we can raise the additional 20k in the next week, I would be very happy. All the money we raised went to doctors and treatment as we all knew it would. When you are sick, money burns fast. Please help.

Thank you all again and please share this with you fellow cyclists.

Best,

Ray Alba

Dear friends,

Ray here and I wanted to update you on Bill's health.
Bill is struggling and the battle is very hard. He and Jen can sure use some company and help with getting Bill to and from the Doctors for treatment.

We are all busy people and I know, I am guilty for not being available either. If you can find time, please reach out to Jen or Bill and maybe schedule a few minutes of your day or month too see Bill and Jen through this trying time.

When I talked with Jen, she mentioned that the Chemo and Radiation have Bill in a tremendous amount of pain, and that he isn't eating enough. Jen is hoping that one of us knows of a hypnotist that can help Bill manage his pain through hypnotherapy which from time to time works. If anyone of you have a source, please reach out to us on this page or send any of us a personal message.

Lastly, I will be doing another fund drive as Jen is the only source of income. With all the care Bill needs, Jen is not able to work. I will set this up shortly and post on this page and my personal page.

Think positive thoughts for Bill, call him, stop by (though call ahead), help him get to his treatment. And if you can donate to help with their bills, all the better.

With love,
Ray Alba
