Summary:
Aloe came to the Cat Shack rescue with an injury that may have been sustained by being swung by her tail. Sadly, she needs a tail amputation ASAP. The good news is that even after being subjected to more then her fair share of trials, this SWEET, young cat has the potential to to have a full and normal life with a family that will love and protect her.
History:
Aloe was slated to be euthanized at a local shelter when she was dropped off as a very mangy, dirty looking stray. Aloe's wonderful personality helped to save her life and the shelter's life-saving department contacted The Cat Shack for help. Luckily foster space was found for this sweet cat. (Pictured below on intake, 2/14/2014)
Over the next 4 weeks Aloe's skin condition rapidly improved. It was only after her skin started to heal did it become clear that Aloe's problems were bigger then we originally believed. Aloe's tail remained limp, and hind end seemed to be getting inflamed. Aloe was taken back to Perkiomen Animal Hospital for a recheck and a closer examination. (Photo below taken 3/13/2014)
X-rays revealed the cause of her painful, swollen tail. Poor, sweet Aloe has a fracture in her spine that may have been caused from someone picking her up and swinging her by her tail. Thankfully, the fracture has not caused total paralysis of her hind end, but it is at a minimum preventing proper circulation to her tail. The tip of her tail has started to "die" and it's unclear how much more of the tail will be affected, and if the dead-weight of her tail is causing further strain on the fracture. The vets at Perkiomen Animal Hospital have recommended amputating the tail as the first step in making Aloe comfortable and getting her ready for a future home.
Aloe's x-rays, surgery and after-care are expected to cost approximately $700. The Cat Shack is a No-Kill, 501(c)3 charitable organization and ALL donations are Tax Deductible. Thank you!
