Surgery & Recovery for Josh Moon

I don’t really know how to start this, but my brother Josh needs help.  He has severe scoliosis and needs to undergoing a significant surgery to correct his spine.

I guess I will start by explaining his situation. Josh was diagnosed with scoliosis when he was 18 years old and it has gradually gotten worse over time. Unfortunately, it is now to the point where he is unable to work. That leaves him with zero monthly income but he still has bills to pay. Although, he is awaiting disability his goal is to get back to work.  He has recently learned that his spine curvature is at 88 degrees (I attached a photo of his latest x-ray at the bottom) and if it gets to 90 – 100 degrees it could affect his heart.  His surgery will consist of cutting his back open from his neck to lower back, placing pins in his hips and a rod in his back, all while twisting his spine back in place. As if that doesn’t sound scary enough Josh will then have to stay in the hospital bed and be monitored for at least week, and that’s if there are no further complications. When he does get back home Josh will be on bed rest and in a back cast for the first month, and the second and third month Josh will have to have the cast on whenever he is out of bed or moving around. The next couple months will consist of physical therapy to get him healthy.

Josh is not one to discuss his condition let alone ask for help, so you can imagine how difficult it was for me to get him to agree on letting me put this out there. Never the less, I am posting this now because his surgery is set for Tuesday, December 15th of this year.

His Insurance alone is $400 + a month, but that is only covering a portion of the surgery. And on top of that there is his hospital stay, physical therapy, medication, and everyday living such as rent, food, and utilities.  Our goal is to raise enough money to support him during his recovery.

We have all been pushing him to do the surgery since it became an option.  And now that it’s so close we want to make sure he is taken care of. Anything will help, even just sharing this page. We thank you in advance for all of the support. Soon Josh will be healthy!

This is his most recent x-ray.
