Grant is a 13 y/o middle school teenager who plays on the golf team & loves his Gamecocks, hunting, fishing, family & friends. Grant's mom (Tara Liles Hammett) expected to hear 'it's viral & has to run its course' or leave with a prescription for antibiotics for his nagging cough. Little did she know the journey they were embarking on Monday, August 31, 2015. Grant was sent to MUSC due to a mass in his chest & since then advised it is cancer. Due to the size and location of the mass, the physicians were not able to place the port (yet) & the initial biopsy did not provide definitive answers as far as type & staging which determines treatment. Additional tests and procedures are scheduled and treatment will surely follow! The prognosis is good as the medical team feels confident it is treatable and Team Grant is ever so thankful for that, however the road will be lengthy one to recovery. Grant's mom will be by his side of course as well as other family members. Team Grant is committed to supporting him and his family in faith, prayer, encouragement as well as financially as the expenses add up very quickly when you are out of work coupled with travel, food, lodging & keeping up with household expenses that do not stop in times like these. Thank you all for your overwhelming support this far thru messages, calls, prayers, etc. The goal amount for this account is subject to change according to the expenses once treatment is determined. Thank you in advance for sharing this page and supporting Team Grant Hammett.
