Southwest Houston residents on edge after spike in crime http://abc13.com/720671/

Shenandoah is a small community of 254 homes located in the heart of Gulfton,  Houston's most densely populated neighborhood.(http://blogs.houstonpress.com/artattack/2014/10/the_changing_face_of_houston_-_gulfton.php).
In a recent article published by the Houston Chronicle, our zip code 77081 was ranked as the 10th poorest in the City of Houston.

Shenandoah is THE ONLY single family community within Gulfton. Our community is surrounded by industrial, commercial and multifamily apartment buildings.

Our civic association is funded mainly by donations from homeowners. In 2014, 90 homeowners contributed a total of $6,500. Those funds are mainly allocated to mowing the Renwick Esplanade from Elm to Dashwood and the Atwell Ditch from Elm to Clarewood.

The purpose of our campaign is to raise $76,742 to allow our community to contract for 1 year a Patrol officer from the Harris Country Constable Precinct 5. Your donation of $5, $10, $20 or any amount is greatly appreciated.

The Contract Patrol Program Agreement (CPPA) with Harris County is based on an 80% / 20% split.  Our community would pay 80% of the cost and Harris County picks up the remaining 20%.  Our current annual cost for a CPPA with these figures is $76,742.00.

We are given ourselves until December 31st 2015 to reach our goal. If we cannot raise the full amount to hire a full time patrol officer, we will then allocate the funds collected to hire a part time constable at a cost of $40 per hour with a 4 hour minimum requirement. We will hire this part time officer to patrol our streets during the weekends were we notice most of the issues with the surrounding area.

We are a very active community. In the last year, the residents of our community hosted 2 community clean-up events and filled 4 x 30 yard containers, removed more than 110 abandoned shopping carts from ditches, streets and sidewalks and returned them to the retailers. We also trimmed trees, remove bandit signs and helped neighbors in need.

Your support is greatly appreciated so we can hire a full time Harris County Constable officer to patrol our community and supplement the job that HDP currently does. Unfortunately our local HPD Storefront is closed during the weekends and that is when we need them the most.

All donors will be recognized during our National NightOut Event to be hosted on October 6 2015.

Having a safer Shenandoah and Gulfton area will benefit the whole City of Houston.
