My name is Stacy DeGelormo. I have been a resident of Newburgh /NewWindsor N.Y. , my entire life.
I am now a Volunteer at the Hudson Valley SPCA in New Windsor , New York.
Our Shelter is a NO KILL shelter, which means...
If the animals we take in do not get adopted or are “unadoptable” due to issues. The Shelter cares for these animals their entire lives!
This also means, other shelters from all over the United States reach out to us, to take their dogs and save them from high kill Shelters! Let me finish this sentence by telling you, Matt the Shelter Manager, NEVER SAYS NO!
“We save what ever comes our way”!!!
Most dogs come in Unneutered and with other life threatening illness, that need tons of medical care.
At this point, the Vet bills exceed $10,000.00
For years, I have drove by, looking in.
I had always been so afraid to pull in, not knowing if I could handle it . You know the feeling , right ...
Becoming friends with a few volunteers. I got a call in December that the small dogs needed help, there was no heat in the shelter that night, they were trying to find fosters until they got the help to fix the heat, so of course, I went over and needless to say ... I fell in love!! The pic is my beautiful senior rescue Roxy!
By showing up, I have learned and witnessed how much love there is for these animals. How many people show up daily for no pay at all, just to do what’s needed for the animals. This is the only SPCA in the county.
We respond to over 1,000 calls per year and prosecute cases to the fullest extent of the law. We are strictly no kill.
The Hudson Valley SPCA has adopted out over 850 dogs to great families!!! That’s more than any other shelter in a 3 hour radius..!

99% DO get adopted from here, but for the ones that stay, they need better shelter!
So in learning all this I thought .. I have to make time ...just like everyone else that’s here!! So now, I make time !!! Changed my days and now I am in the office helping with applications and anything else they need! The caretakers here work tirelessly to get these animals to except them, they all give so much love to show these animals, they are worth it. So much effort they all put in to getting them adopted. Unfortunately,
we are not funded by any municipalities. So the very same people who care for these animals also have to do the fundraising to keep the doors open. We need everyone’s help to upgrade this place. We need people to help us expand so we can save more lives and improve the quality of the lives of those who are with us!!
Please... Donate to help us build a better Shelter for these beautiful animals that have no voice but ours !! Then share this, because these dogs and cats need this! With mostly all of our donations going to vet bills and caring for all of these babies, the housing is always put second, or has had quick inexpensive fixes to get us thru. Please find it in your heart to help us help them. All proceeds will go directly to building this shelter.
