Our Internship in Cambodia

Donation protected
The Moran's are going on the most meaningful adventure of their marriage so far as they head off to work and learn with the people of Cambodia for the summer, a place that means everything to them.

We can't explain how important this trip is. As we continuelly think through what our marriage means, we have decided that our partnership is for much more than just self fulfillment and togetherness. Our marriage is about loving people. It's about accepting people. It's about helping create love and stability and care all around us. We want to be a part of making this world beautiful, we want to live for the good of all people, together.

We are doing an internship with Lightbridge International!

The last requirement necessary for Matthew to graduate from Moody Bible Institute, is that he take part in a six-week cross-cultural internship. As we have considered many opportunities to fill this requirement, we have decided to partner with LightBridge International in Cambodia.

Jillian, has worked with Lightbridge as an intern and has made four separate trips to Cambodia in the process. It’s been a goal and dream for us to experience Cambodia as a couple since the start of our relationship. Not only did Lightbridge resonate with us due to their familiarity with us, but we have a true belief that Lightbridge is creating real change in this world.

We chose Lightbridge because there is nothing more important to us than the respect and non-exploitative nature of this organization when it comes to the culture of this country and its people. As a couple we are well versed in the damage and unethical tendencies of some overseas work (especially when it comes to religious organizations). It is of utmost value to us that LightBridge brings dignity, health, and education in a way that is not a detriment but an empowerment of this culture and it's beautiful, compelling people.

Lightbridge International focuses on a tiny people group within Minefield Village as well as the local Cambodian Church on a border town between Thailand and Cambodia. This town is one of the most sex-trafficked border towns in the world which leaves women and children alike in an extremely vulnerable way of living. This incredible organization has not only allowed an opportunity for women in this village to be self-sustainable through a jewelry program, but also fight for the dignity and respect of women’s souls, by empowering them through education, health, and faith.

Lightbridge international helped create a clean water system to this village and is committed to helping people understand the importance of their health and livelihood through having clean water to drink for the first time in their lives!

Lightbridge built a school, focusing on the next generation of men and women who will be instrumental in the future progress of Cambodia as a war stricken, and very broken country.

These are some of the roles Lightbridge has played in the lives of this people group. There are many more impactful things happening through deeply bonded relationships with these people. Jill has experienced how this organization has fought hard to know and love these people in a culturally sensitive and intimate way.

During this six-week internship in Cambodia, we will be focused on building relationships with the Khmer translators that work alongside LightBridge International. Our goal is to focus on how to better the translation efforts for both the translators and LightBridge. Translating between languages is an important aspect in helping the hearts of the Khmer people truly understand their worth in the eyes of God. This is a very heavy task. We will also have the privilege to pour into the translators allowing them to know how instrumental they are in their role.  We are extremely excited to form these relationships.

This Internship serves another purpose. As we continue to make steps forward pursuing our desire to make true love known, this internship serves as a vision trip. We desire to work overseas in our lifetime and this trip will give us extended experience working closely with people from a completely different culture. Naturally, we expect difficulties along the way; situations to challenge and stretch us as individuals and as a couple. We know we have a lot of growing to do and don’t expect this time to be easy. We do however, expect God to use this time through trial and joy to deepen our knowledge of His love for us and His love for this world.

Will you help us get over there??
