#ShelbyStrong, round 2.

On behalf of Shelby Hilton, a group of her friends wrote this to raise awareness and help her fight cancer for the second time.

On February, 27 2014, Shelby was hit with the blow of brain cancer at the age of 21—medulloblastoma, a cancer rare to females, and especially rare to that age range.  The news of cancer came while she was a competitive gymnast at University of Kentucky during a tumbling routine.  Something didn’t seem right that day… even the weeks leading up to that meet, she recounts.  During that tumbling routine broadcast for the world to see, she took a bad fall on her neck. She was then taken to the hospital, where scans showed Shelby that the coming months would take her away from college classes and competitive gymnastics to the hospital for the fight of her life.

When I heard her story for the first time, I remember holding back tears, wondering how a person could be so positive about such a tough situation from their past.  But one of the things I love most about Shelby is her ability to see the good in every situation.  She says that she wasn’t always this way… that through her battle with cancer, God taught her to see what’s most important in life.  It allowed her to see the world through a different lens.  It was tough at first to lose her eyelashes and hair… but, throughout the process she found a deeper connection with what’s most important in this life—cherishing the people and experiences more than ever.  Her bout with cancer helped her grow as an individual.  I find that incredibly beautiful.

After months of chemo and radiation, on September 29, 2015, Shelby, and her parents Donna and Hank, received the news that the treatments had worked and she was now in remission. Shelby worked to get back on track. She returned to the University of Kentucky where she finished her degree then returned to her hometown of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Since moving back to St. Pete, Shelby began her new job and lives a very full life. Her friends refer to her as the “Yes, Girl.” If you want to go to a concert… Shelby will be there. If you want to go on a roadtrip… Shelby will be there.  She lives as though every day is her last, something we could all strive for.  Knowing Shelby Hilton has made so many of us better.

On May 22, 2018, just days before her 25th birthday... and over two-and-a-half years in remission, a routine scan showed an abnormality in her brain.  Her oncologist confirmed on the 24th that the cancer was back.  Shelby will be fighting cancer for a second time and needs all of the prayers and support she can get.  Any kind words and/or donations to Shelby’s second fight against cancer will be so greatly appreciated.  All donations will go direction to medical expenses and travel expenses (to and from doctors appointments). In the coming weeks we will keep you updated on Shelby’s progress.

Hey everyone!

I am finally done with treatment!! I am back home with my family and I couldn't be happier. This round of chemo therapy was serious. I have been through chemo and radiation before and I thought that was hard...I was so wrong. To the individuals who have gone through a transplant with intense chemo therapy, I have so much respect for you. I had severe mucositis (I couldn't speak or swallow) and my body was burned from the chemo. The mucositis is now gone and the burn is getting much better.
What really helped me get through treatment was my mom..she is my rock. My mom was with me in the hospital for the 30 days. My Dr. said the only reason I did not go to ICU was because my mom was such a great caretaker. She has always been this way for me and my brother. So thankful for you momma.
I had my end of treatment check up and MRI yesterday. The news came back that I am CANCER FREE!!
Thank you all so much for the prayers and cards, God is so powerful.
I also want to thank my family and friends for the love and support. It's going to be a great Christmas! Ready to get back to work and move on with my life.
Shelby xx

Hey Everyone!
This will most likely be my last update/post. While everyone is planning their Friday nights, weekend plans and holiday plans.. I will be in the hospital for 30 or more days. I will not be able to leave my hospital room and I will be limited visitors. I will be confined to a hospital room. Its makes me so sad that I have had to deal with cancer for most of my 20s. I'm sick of this and ready to live my life again. Thank you to the friends and family that continue to check on me. Those whom I am talking about, mean so much to me. I have had some friends that have complete disowned me or was there in the beginning and then completely vanish (they know who they are). This situation I am in has really opened my eyes up to who people really are... I am glad to finally figure that out. I am grateful to have such amazing/supportive parents to help me through this. It has not been easy for me, so I know it hasn't been easy for them.. My faith has been tested NUMEROUS times, however I will continue to have faith that God will help me through this again! I don't want this to be a negative post, because I am so grateful for the people that have helped me along the way & those people have not stopped being there for me... I am just sharing my feelings with you all. Today, I please ask you to pray not only for me, but my family. I know God has bigger and better plans for me , He is going to cure me because I sure as hell won't let this kill me!

I cannot thank you all enough for making my fundraiser so successful! I am so blessed and grateful to have an amazing support team. I was so excited to see everyone there!
To my friends who put on this event (Cora, Brad, Rocky & Lacy) thank you so much for all that you do for me and my family. You all mean the world to me, but you already I knew that lol. Once Cora found out that my cancer had returned, within seconds she ask, "how can I help?" I told her that there isn't much she can do...She wasn't okay with that, so she went above and beyond to help a sister out. That is when Brad, Rocky and Lacy jumped right in without hesitation. To all my friends that came (close & far) I love you all so much and I was happy ya'll were there to support me. To my TBT family, you all have supported me since day one and I know that will never stop. To my Church family, your prayers mean the world to me. I was excited to see a lot of you there. To the people I just met, thank you for coming and it was great meeting you all. Lastly, I want to thank my family. God has been so amazing to us. My family will drop whatever they are doing to be by my side. I would not be able to get through this without you. Also, my boyfriend Nick. We had just started dating a few months before my diagnosis. He had known about my past, but never thought he would have to see me go through this again. Nick has been nothing but amazing! He has encouraged me to stay positive and has kept me busy. I am so lucky to be surround by great and positive people who genuinely care about me and want to know how I am doing. Again, thank you all for your love and support.

Hey everyone, I wanted to give you all an update...
I just finished another round of chemo therapy. This time I had to take an oral chemo, which allowed me to travel. I was able to visit friends/family in Ft. Walton Beach & Knoxville, TN. I have not experienced as many complications as the last time (which has really helped me get through this). It's been great getting out to smell the fresh air instead of sitting at home or at the hospital. However, mid October I will be in the hospital for 30 long days to recover from an intense chemo therapy. I won't be able to leave my room for 30 days and I won't be able to have many visitors. My parents are having to find an apartment in Gainesville for the meantime. After the 30 days, I will then start the infusion.
Everyone's support has been so amazing and we couldn't be more grateful. Thank you all again for being so amazing to us!

P.S- If you would like to come visit me at my Fundraiser "Flight Against Cancer" , here is all the information below. BTW, it is next Saturday! I would love to see everyone.
