Help the Robo Squad compete in St. Louis!
The Elm City Robo Squad, FIRST robotics team 558 in urban New Haven, CT, has high hopes of qualifying for the third year in a row to attend the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis on April 28-30, 2016.
Why do we need help?
As an inner-city team, our travel costs are entirely supported by fundraising. Even with choosing the most frugal options for transportation and housing (like sharing an 18-hour bus ride with other teams), these costs add up quickly. Competing at the championship level also incurs additional expenses like registration fees, extra robot parts, trailer rental and robot shipping.
What is FIRST?
FIRST is a program started by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway scooter, that combines the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math with the thrill of competition. Each year, thousands of high school students have six weeks in which to design and build their robots. This year's game, Stronghold, requires robots, working in teams of three, to defend their castles and at the same time capture their opponents' towers by shooting "bolders."
