2016 UNITY Conference

The Shinnecock Youth Council consists of Shinnecock youth, whose mission is to acquire and encourage leadership skills within our community. In order to obtain these skills, we attend and host cultural exchanges, attend leadership conferences, and organize community events.
So far this year, we've participated in the Mid-Winter social, a traditional community gathering, which included feasting, dancing, singing, and a cultural exchange with Native Hawaiians. From February 6th through 12th, we sent Youth Council representatitives to Washington, DC for a conference that focused on Tribal and Federal politics as well as policy making. 
So far our goals for 2016 are:
-Community clean ups
-Community garden
-Farmers market
-Promotions of healthy lifestyles
-Welcoming the Hokulea voyage to New York
-Attending the 2016 UNITY conference
The funds we recieve from you, will be used to help us attend the 2016 UNITY Conference in Oklahoma. The mission statement for UNITY is as follows, "The UNITY Mission is to foster the spiritual, mental, physical, and social development of American Indian and Alaska Native youth and to help build a strong, unified, and self- reliant Native America through greater youth involvement." All surplus funds will be used to complete our goals for this year and help keep our youth council functioning.  
To reach this years goals, the Shinnecock Youth Council will need to raise $6,000. We are activily fundraising, but are still asking for your help. Attending the United National Indian Tribal Youth Conference, is an amazing opportunity that will provide us with the tools necessary to become today's leaders as well as educate and unite our community.
