Help Support our Friend Mike Gay

I am pretty sure that if you have lived in Taunton at some point in the last 40 years, you have encountered Mike Gay. Whether or not you realize it, I can assure you that he has been present with his camera bag in tow at an event that has been of some importance to you and your family. He has captured the moment at your child’s preschool, winter concert, sporting event, science fair, graduation, religious events and fundraisers. Mike Gay has been there for your happy memories, your major accomplishment, our community events. In the rain, the cold, the heat. He was always there. Always with a camera in hand, ready to capture the memory and share it with his friends in Taunton. Mike Gay is a staple in this community, he was named the Grand Marshall of the Taunton Christmas parade a few years ago.Unfortunately, the printed newspaper is starting to become a thing of the past. Last week, Gatehouse Media, the company that owns the Taunton Gazette had to lay off Mike Gay after being a photographer for the paper for over 40 years. He was the longest tenured employee in the Taunton office. I am sure that Mike’s talent will lead him to more opportunities....unfortunately he is a photographer without a camera. Since he had been with the paper for so long, all of his photography equipment was owned by Gatehouse Media. I would love to see Mike have the ability to share his gift of photography with the community in some capacity again. Let’s give back to this man as he has given to us for so long.Any amount you can donate is much appreciated! Thanks so much!

*GoFundMe has a policy regarding transparency, and would like for me to update as much information as possible about who I am, and how the money will be distributed
I understand that there could be some questions about how the money will be relayed to Mike.  Steve Sanchez, longtime friend of Mike and sports editor for the Taunton gazette and myself, have planned to meet up with him (hopefully Monday) and hand him a check. The funds will be transferred by me into a bank account at Webster Bank. I will go to Webster Bank and have a cashiers check to be issued in Mike’s name from the bank. I will give him the cashiers check
I first met Mike 3 years ago while he was shooting football for BP and I was a sports photographer by hobby. He and I would walk the sidelines on Friday nights, and he would give me tips on photography. This past spring, I was given the opportunity to be Mike’s sidekick during the Taunton High Softball state championship. I was allowed the opportunity to be a contributing photographer. It was a great experience.
My hopes with these funds Mike will be able to replace his professional equipment as well as a computer to edit the images. I was recently informed that his computer was owned by Gatehouse as well.
Thanks everyone!
