Library Organization

Hi, we're part of Fern Waters Public Charter School's 8th Grade Class.

We partnered with our local library in order to solve a problem in our new school. Library staff took us through the design thinking process which lasted several weeks in order to empathize, define, brainstorm, & prototype a solution.

Now we're relying on your donations to make that process complete.

We identified the library / coat room as a huge problem in our new school. It was congested and crowded, especially during the end of the school day.  It was something we definitely needed a solution for. 

Our process -

Empathy:

In this phase we were asked to interview users who interacted with our problem and figure out there needs. We wanted to make sure we addressed these needs in our final solution. We interviewed the 4th/5th grade students who use the coat room, along with our teachers for more information on how they saw the issue.

Define:


We used a dot voting system to define the problem as "How might we create a better organized room so people have more personal space and library books are more accessible?" 


Brainstorm:


During our brainstorming session we decided the best solution was to move the center bookshelf out of the room. We would utilize more wall space with newer book shelves and add additional hooks for back packs. 

Prototype:


First we made a 2D sketch of the room to give us an idea of how we might arrange things. Then to get a better sense if everything would fit we made a scale model out of cardboard.

Filming:


Finally we filmed our crowdfunding video in order to raise money for our project. 

Should we receive the $200 for our materials of wood, stain, and brackets, we would implement our solution and complete the final phase of design thinking, testing.
