The Story
My name is Catherine Pollock, and I'm raising funds to lead a team on a short-term mission trip to Mombasa, Kenya this fall (2016), to work alongside and encourage our brothers and sisters at Kilimani Baptist Church - a church my home church (New Life Baptist Church, in Phoenix, AZ) has helped financially support for over a decade now.
Background
In the fall of 2001, Rich (my co-leader and team logistics afficionado this trip) went to Mombasa for the first time, and really connected with a translator that worked with his team while he was there. They stayed in contact over the years, and that young man (the translator) went on to become Kilimani Baptist Church's pastor. New Life Baptist Church came to know (and love) this church and pastor when Rich became pastor at New Life Baptist Church in 2005.
A few years ago, Rich and I strongly felt the Lord tell us to visit Mombasa and Kilimani Baptist Church - to visit many friends we had never seen face to face and a few Rich had, and to lay the foundation for future trips to help with the work Kilimani is doing in their community, and two years ago this fall, we went and fell in love anew.
It was a wonderful trip, and we left knowing for certain we would be back in two years.
The Breakdown
Two years is up this fall, and we are headed back - with a team that now stands at around half a dozen. While I am setting money aside, and picking up freelance work and side jobs here and there to help pay for my portion of this trip, I know it is not going to be enough to get me there. I'm starting this GoFundMe to help bridge the gap between what I am able to set aside on my own and what I need to get there. This money will go towards airfare, visa fees for entry into Kenya, international insurance for my time outside of the country, meals both in transit and while I am there, housing while I am there, a place to stay during an extra-long layover, and materials for ministry while we are there.

Total I Need to Raise: $3,000.00
Of the total, I need to raise $1,800.00 by August 15th (approximately) in order to purchase airfare. The remaining $1,200.00 will be due in November prior to our team's departure.
Why is this so important?
Saying that I fell in love with my friends at Kilimani Baptist Church is an understatement. They are the dearest of friends, and I have missed them greatly since my return from the last trip. We (Rich and I) committed to returning in two years, and to bringing more people with us when we did, because it was so greatly on our hearts to do so. It means more than I know how to say that I have the ability to keep my promise to my friends.
Also, we are going (again) to be a blessing and encouragement and to help Kilimani Baptist Church continue to reach out and show the love of God to the community that has sprung up around it.
