At 8:11am on Wednesday November 25th (the day before Thanksgiving) I was on my way to work and received a call I never thought I would ever recieve. "Stephanie this is the Sioux City Police Dispatch. Are you at home. (No) We received a call from a neighbor that there is smoke coming from your roof. Is anyone in the home now? (My dog and cat)The Fire Department is on the way. "

Devestated, feel so incredibly helpless I quickly called my boss and told her to call my teaching partner I was not coming in. Called my dear friend who took my daughter to school to make sure she was indeed not home. Called my husband to tell him the call I received and then my mom. When I turned the corner to the road leading to my house I saw smoke and the fire trucks in the intersection blocking off the streets to my house. I can't even begin to describe the sceen.

Through battling the fire, the fire department also knew to look for our beloved furbabies, our cat Ella and dog Joey. Ella jetted out of the house when they firemen kicked in the door, unfortunately they were unable to find Joey until they had put the fire out. Joey was located in his safe spot at the foot of my bed. When they found him, they rushed him out to the Paramedics. The Paramedics on sceen, Sarah and Aaron, did CPR on Joey for 15 minutes and were unable to revive him. We are completely devestated.

They determined the fire started in the kitchen. I left the house at 7:40 and the call came in at 8:08. We didn't even smell smoke when we left.  Due to the extreme media coverage, we had to pick our 3 girls up from school early so they didn't hear this from a media source or another student. The counselors were present for our girls as they heard the news.

Our lives have been flipped turned upside down. Our house suffered extensive damage from fire, smoke and water. We are still trying to wrap our heads around this. There has been an outpouring of support from our friends and family. We have been encouraged to start a Go Fund Me page for friends, family, and supporters from near and far to donate to assist us in starting over. We thank you for your generous thoughfulness especially during this time of the year.
