Help save a Life

Hi.

This is Apolonio Sipacio, a friend's Father.

He is 58 years of age and is a loving father of 2. He had an accident last June 7 at there home (fell down from the ladder and tragically hit his head). They immediatelybrought him to a private hospital in Iloilo. He became unscious at the moment he fell and was carried by the the paramedics going to the hospital. He arrived at the emergency room conscious with a face mask on. All laboratories were requested and eventually decided to intubate him to prevent collapse of the respiratory functions. A nasogastric tube was inserted and a coffee ground secretions was noted and they later on noticed that the drain in the tube was already blood. The CT scan showed that there was bleeding in his right brain. The doctor opted to have an emergency craniotomy (surgical removal of a portion of the skull) on his right side of the brain for evacuation of hematoma (blood). His neurological status in the emergency room was GCS 3.  The operation took about 4 hours and was successful. Not until the fourth post-operative day, the neurosurgeon noticed that he has still no eye opening and noted an anisocoric pupils (unequal size of pupils), so the surgeon decided to do a CT scan and found out that the left brain was swollen causing an increased in intracranial pressure due to the trauma. He had to undergo another surgery to decompress his left side of the brain so that the pressure could be relieved and that he could have a spontaneous eye opening. Furthermore he also went into a tracheostomy surgery to assist him to breathe. Because he was bed ridden, he developed a nosocomial pneumonia (lung infection) and is currently on antibiotics. He is still in
ICU, attached to a mechanical ventilator for his breathing.
