Green Earth Poets Cafe  a 501 (c)(3) Non Profit Company offers young people multiple ways to become engaged, develop their voices, be heard, and effect change. Your support makes a difference to hundreds of young people in the Brooklyn Area and across the City of New York as they work to shape our collective future through the power of the written and spoken word. Your one-time, or even better recurring donation will serve youth in the classroom, in the community, in prison, and on stage.

Green Earth Poets Cafe
exists to promote literacy, self-confidence, communications, community, and educational development among young people in disadvantaged areas of NYC through the performing arts. We assist in the development of creative writers and inspire, encourage, and empower youth ages 10-18 to discover their voice and to express this voice poetically.
The communities of Crown Heights, Bed Sty, and Brownsville Brooklyn, NY school districts have some of the highest absentee rates and some of the lowest reading and math scores in the city.
"Our youth are slamming" are in school literacy programs that teach slam poetry skills to children which increases reading, writing, educational development, self-confidence , self-esteem and public speaking ability. In addition, "No more silent voices" a poetry workshop developed for incarcerated youth July  2014 at Rikers Island prison. Our youth have a lot of issues and concerns they are dealing with in these communities. Our program gives them a platform and opportunity to express those concerns in a safe supportive environment. Our programs will increase reading scores, attendance, and educational achievement. See CNN link Expressing loss, anger through slam poetry . The program culminates in a slam poetry competition by the students, judged by poet professionals and teaching professionals. The support for our youth are slamming program will allow Green Earth Poets Cafe to add staff, activities and purchase equipment that will motivate young people to choose a path that leads to their success. We partner with educational institutions to serve children in under performing schools where 75% of 3rd to 8th graders are reading below grade level according to the NYS common core August 2013 test results. Many of these institutions do not have the resources for these children in disadvantaged areas. Please help us, help them. There is a correlation between crime and illiteracy and we are doing our part to eliminate both illiteracy and crime. Please give today to our cause. "Our youth are slamming" literacy program. Gentrification is a horrible concept, it displaces many long term residents who cannot afford planned "development". Many major corporations are exploiting opportunities that many elected officials have allowed. In the name of development. My question is development for WHO? Come to our poetry event and speak your peace, piece, learn to take action. Thank you for your donation.

Generous donors like you help us support the communities that make life better for all of us.

Green Earth Poets Cafe is proud to inform you that "No More Silent Voices", our poetry program for the incarcerated at Rikers Island prison has been going well thanks to your gifts and donations. Since July 2014 we have seen on average 30 inmates per month, encouraging them with poetry, music, comedy, dance and song. We have seen the faces of countless youth and adults smile with joy as we get them to rap, spit, and sing with us at the following facilities at Rikers. We have visited the RNDC, GRVC, ESH OBCC and Rose Singer facilities and look forward to continuing the program at Rikers Island. However, we need your financial help. Please donate today.
Our first visit to Rikers was July 2014

Today I learned that your beloved father transitioned. I am a participant at the Albany Senior Center where we were privileged to be taught writing and poetry skills by Ms. Nicole Najmah Abraham. In celebration of the life of Mr. Harris and in memory of the musical joy he brought to us on the debut of, "Golden Poetic Moments An Anthology from Golden Age Writers", this donation is made to Green Earth Poets Cafe.
