Help our Son get this surgery!

Cullen Filler is the youngest child of 6 to Jason and Becky. He came to live with his new family in March of 2014 as a foster baby! Unfortunately, Cullen was born addicted to drugs. Because of his mother’s drug use, Cullen is legally blind (His vision with glasses is 20/200)! He can only see small details a few inches from his face and can see just outlines of objects further than that. He also suffers from a condition called Nystagmus (where his eyes constantly move from side to side). On top of all that he also has a condition called Cortical Vision Impairment where it’s like he’s constantly looking through a block of Swiss cheese and he’s trying to find the holes to look through (which literally changes from minute to minute). Children’s Hospital have told his parents there is a chance that Cullen could go completely blind by the time he’s in his 20’s.

There is an amazing new surgery that can help Cullen’s eye sight improve by up to 85% and prevent him from entirely going blind! Jason and Becky contacted the surgeon and after reviewing Cullen’s medical records he determined that Cullen is a perfect candidate for the surgery!!! For 18 months the family has worked to make this surgery happen (some things had to wait for the adoption to be finalized and it finally was in August 2015). A year ago the surgery center said that the surgery was approved with the insurance company and everything was a go!

The surgery has been scheduled since October 2015. Due to clerical mistakes the surgery center made, it never actually was approved and in fact denied… Many times, surgeries involving the eyes is considered “Cosmetic”. This is the only surgeon in the world doing this kind of surgery and with this kind of success and like it was already stated it could improve Cullen’s vision up to 85%. Cullen’s family JUST found out last week that the surgery was actually denied and told today that if they can’t come up with $60,000 in 2 weeks (the date of surgery) that the surgery will not happen. With Insurance out of the picture there is no other options for their baby! The Filler’s have already planned for this for a year and have saved up enough money to travel to and from California from Colorado, meals for their family of 8, stay in a hotel for 2 weeks (requested time period by surgeon) and now the surgery has been denied! The younger the patient the better results from the surgery. With this surgery, Cullen won’t have to learn brail, he will be able to learn to ride a bike, learn to drive a car. His eyes will no longer sway back and forth constantly. Improved vision means an improved life! They are DESPERATE for help! Help their little boy see!  They will be SO GRATEFUL!

With all of the outside support we've been getting and with go fund me, we have raised almost $30,000 in just three days!!!  Please keep posting and sharing, even a $5 donation helps!!!  We're almost there!!!!!!
