Hello!

My name is Lee Royer and I am a Junior level competitive Ice Dancer for Canada training in Burnaby, British Columbia.  Along with my partner Yuka Orihara we are pursuing our goal of representing Canada on the international stage.

After making the tough decision with my former partner to go our separate ways after four successful seasons, I embarked on a rather extensive partner search.  By late April of 2018 I knew I had found an amazing partner in Yuka Orihara and we began plans as a new team.  This has been a difficult journey thus far for both of us as a new partnership with a skater from a foreign country involves many sacrifices for both skaters and their families.

As Yuka lived in Japan, she not only had to leave her family, move on her own at age 17 to Canada, learn English, and pass all the Skate Canada ice dance tests, we then also had to get approval from the Japan Skating Federation for her release to skate with me.  We are now looking forward to February 3, 2019, the date which the ISU will allow Yuka and I to skate internationally.   We are grateful to both Skate Canada and the Japan Skating Federation for allowing our partnership to take place and move forward.

I had a successful season with my former partner, competing in 5 Junior Grand Prix’s, a few additional international competitions, and Junior Worlds.   I anticipate even stronger results with Yuka.  After two and a half months of training with Yuka, we placed on the podium at our first competition in Lake Placid. We then jumped in the car and drove back to Canada to compete the next day in Ottawa.  There we finished first in both our Rhythm and Free Dances for a first overall podium finish in a field of 20 Canadian dance teams at Ontario Summer Skate.  It was an exhausting but rewarding first outing.

Later in August we spent a very exciting week in Japan training and then competing our Rhythm dance in Tokyo.  I was overwhelmed with the support and enthusiastic feedback we received from the Japanese fans, skaters, judges, and coaches!  You are all amazing!

As Yuka and I have set our goal quite high, the financial costs associated are also extreme.  I am having challenges meeting the costs of the coaching fees, ice fees, and off-ice training which includes fitness training, ballroom dance, and ballet.  I moved away from my family in Alberta at age 15 to pursue my skating dream and to train with Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe and the costs associated with accommodations, school, and training for a podium finish is huge!   I would be very grateful for any contributions/sponsorship big or small, as it will help offset some of my financial strain and that of my single parent mother to try to meet the high costs.  No gift is too small.
