I have always been interested in interesting music, film and TV that pushed boundaries and that could be creative, educational and entertaining all at the same time.
I am currently producing a television documentary about the tiny community of Christiania in Copenhagen Denmark. It is to many an interesting long-term social experiment recognised by the Danish Government, to others just a way of life, an alternative to conventional urban existence, a haven for creatives, local high-quality business and refugees from the modern world since 1971.
My production is low-budget but broadcast-quality.
It has allowed me to meet and work with some fascinating individuals but at a very very slow pace.
I am looking for sponsors so that I can increase the speed at which this film is made and maybe even work full-time on it. I really need to have completely free time over the winter and spring to work full-time on the editing of this film.
I get no validation at all from friends or my family for producing films because there is no visible commercial aspect to it. I have no pretentions about being a creative person but I have to put up with a very considerable family taboo about doing anything creative.
By supporting me with even a tiny donation you will actually be validating me in a very real way as a real producer as well as simply buying time for post-production.
From time to time I need to hire assistants and technicians and a proper level of backing would allow me to create properly paid freelance job opportunities. I should like to pay original musicians for their work and also give a generous financial thank-you to the people who worked for for me on location in Denmark.
After three location shoots, starting in 2011, entirely self-funded, I am trying to work on the 30 hours of video and audio material I have. This project requires about 10-12 hours of work a day for at least six months into the future.
At the moment I am squeezing editing work on productions that can earn some money into the small hours often finishing after 3 am and then being viewed the next day as an inferior sort of person because I don't get up at 7 am, put on a suit and lead a corporate existence. This is a very demoralising situation.
I have tried asking very rich people who are noted philanthropists in the Wall Street Journal, but have never raised any money this way. All the Twitter and Facebook sharing activity on my page was done by me.
The destination of the film is as before, local TV, which does not pay fees to producers and of courseYoutube.
You can see my first documentary, a travelogue, which was produced in 2004. This film took me about four years to make in all, costing my own money, generated by doing an assortment of low-paid jobs in that time.
I am more than willing to give contributors a screen credit.
