**Descripción en español abajo** Apolinar Venancio, known to many simply as Don Polo, was tragically taken from us on the morning of August 9th after being struck by a speeding SUV and suffering severe head trauma. He was 67 years old. With heavy hearts we ask for help in our time of bereavement. Don Polo was a beloved father and grandfather who was loved and respected by the grass root community of Glassell Park.

Don Polo was a dear friend to many, as he was the local neighborhood mechanic. He never charged the stiff prices that the average mechanic would charge, he would only charge enough for him to get by. In fact, sometimes he wouldn’t even charge at all if his client wasn’t able to pay right away. If he was asked for help, he was there, no questions asked. Many local business owners welcomed his company, even offering him items not on the menu because he was simply their friend.

On the evening of August 7th, Don Polo made his normal commute home riding on his bike, something he did regularly, but this time he did not make it home. Witnesses say they heard the loud impact, only to run up and see Don Polo tumble and roll after being thrown off of his bike. The hit was so hard that his bike's metal frame was bent and broken, and his tools were thrown and scattered across the street. No one deserves this fate, and no one deserves to see their loved one in such trauma. We kept high hopes that medical professionals would find a way to bring him back, to stop the internal bleeding in his brain with surgery and medications, but to no avail.

Please help us raise funds to help Don Polo's family pay for his funeral expenses. Any assistance whatsoever is greatly appreciated.  Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

A message from Leanne, Don Polo’s youngest daughter:

I’ve been going over my head to thank each and everyone who donated, I’m so grateful and I will forever keep your words in my heart. My dad was a strong man and I never thought I’d lose him but I’m blessed. Like I’ve said before, I’m grateful that God gave me the opportunity to have a such a great dad; he was unique and his heart was full of love and he was giving. I hope that my family and I continue to follow in his footsteps. I’m going to always miss having breakfast with him or him giving me life advice. I’m truly grateful for the time I had him with him and for all of you donating, you don’t know how much it means to me and my family during this difficult time. May God bless you and your family with much love.
