Nissen/Sauer Fire Relief Fund

My name is Glenda Nissen and I created this account for my sister and her family. On 7/27/18 2 more devastating wild fires started in Northern California. The River fire and the Ranch fire started in Mendocino County and began their destruction moving into Lake County. The Ranch fire relentlessly moved towards my sisters house just outside Upper Lake. My sister (Linda Nissen), her husband (Rich Sauer), and their 3 adult children (Kim Sauer, Dan Sauer, and Dan’s wife Christine Sauer) were forced to evacuate their home of more than 35 years with just enough time to grab the pets and important documents. As they were forced to leave their home, they took what they could, which was just the bare necessities and stored the property at their business in the City of Lakeport. Unfortunately, the following morning, The River Fire began to threaten the entire City of Lakeport, including Rich’s transmission repair shop. Once again, they had to evacuate from this location as well. Each time they moved to a new location, they had to evacuate again as the River fire could not be contained. The firefighters and first responders worked hard but were unable to keep containment on the Ranch fire, and their house, secondary apartment above their shop, and everything else was overcome by the flames and destroyed. They lost everything. Now they are homeless until they can find accommodations to live temporarily until a more permanent location can been found while they rebuild. To add insult to injury, not enough homes were destroyed to allow for federal assistance at this time, so Linda and her family are on their own financially. Because the Ranch fire is still uncontained and inspectors are unable to enter the destroyed areas yet, the property cannot be confirmed destroyed for insurance purposes. It is unclear how long that will take. Linda is disabled, Rich is unable to open his business at this time and provide for his family, Dan is unable to work as his work location is shut down due to mandatory evacuations from the River fire, and Christine is unable to get to Ukiah for her job because of the Ranch fire. Linda and Rich have always opened their homes and bank accounts to so many that needed help. They have opened their home for others displaced in past fires. They would go without if they saw others in need. They are huge supporters of all of our first responders and the community they live in. Linda and Rich have instilled this selfless attitude in their children as well. Both Kim and Dan, as well as Christine, are generous to others and would travel any distance if asked to for help. They have never asked for anything in return and never would. With that said, they have never asked for help from anyone and always offer help to others to include total strangers. Linda and Rich do have insurance but that takes time to process and get the financial support, but they desperately need that help now to purchase clothing, food, and other necessities as well as find a location to live and purchase the basic furnishings needed to live. I am asking for any financial assistance you can afford. This account is not only for Linda and Rich, but their children as well. Please help me show them that we can step up for them in their hour of need just as they have done for so many in the past. Thank you for any support you can afford to give. And if any funds are left over from this account or no longer needed, Linda will use the remainder to help other victims of this tragedy, so the donations will continue to help others impacted by the Mendocino Complex fire. So please consider donating if you can to help this family that has spent their lives helping so many others.
