PLEASE HELP MY UNCLE (Please see updates for most recent status)

Our beloved boy left us on 3/22/19

Chuck La Vallee

As some of you know my Uncle Chuck was diagnosed with HCC Liver Cancer a little over 5 years ago.

Today, we very much need help to pay medical bills, memorial funds, and to try to keep life as normal as possible for his young son Dashiell.

A bit of background: Chuck has been quiet about being sick for a couple of years and only recently started talking about it.  He works in a very small industry and Chuck wanted to continue to work and support his family. He was able to do so until a couple of years ago when it became too difficult.

Chuck was on the Liver Transplant List at three different transplant centers until 2015 and was within striking distance of a new liver.  As they prepared him they found another tumor in his diaphragm removing him from the transplant list permanently – this almost broke him but he dug out and continues to persevere.

Over the last few years Chuck has been through procedure after procedure after procedure.

Additionally there have been big surgeries, one being cutting out a 6-inch piece of his rib.

The cancer spread into his ribs as well as 2 new tumors in his liver which were very close to shutting down the blood flow to his gallbladder which radiation addressed. They also radiated the tumor on his ribs hoping to stabilize it. Additionally, there have been two different surgeries to remove a bunch of lymph nodes which, thankfully, ended up benign.

All of this is not being covered by insurance and the bills have been in the deep six figures and mounting daily. There are no more savings accounts, 401K’s. or any other kind of savings left.  Insurance premiums and medical bills mount daily.

All my life the only thing that I have ever really seen is that my uncle ONLY cares about his family, his beautiful wife, and 12 year old son.  Chuck has NEVER, no matter how sick, missed a little league game or any school function of any kind.  Really, this is all Chuck cares about.

He is terrified of bankrupting his family and trying to keep things as normal as possible for my little cousin Dashiell.  He has ongoing procedures and pending surgeries.

My uncle Chuck is one of the strongest men I have ever known.  Teenage runaway and heroin addict at 12. Five years of living on the streets, surviving. He cleaned up at 17, went to school, was accepted to an Ivy League University, and ultimately became an executive in a huge entertainment firm.  If anyone can beat this I know my uncle Chuck can with a little help.

So, again, here’s what we need: We very much need help to pay medical bills, memorial funds, and to try to keep life as normal as possible for

Chuck is desperately trying not to leave his family bankrupt or with a ton of bills.

If you can make any donation however small is so appreciated. Whether you can donate or not, we ask for your thoughts and prayers.

I am now back in Santa Barbara and I just wanted to give another update on Chuck La Vallee. I spent Sunday and yesterday by his side, holding his hand, singing to him and reading him all of your prayers.
He must be making one hell of a deal with the big man upstairs. Doctors say it won’t be much longer, but no person on earth can make that sort of determination. They said yesterday, and he’s still here. Stubborn mofo (but that’s why we all love him, right?). Thank you all for sharing photos and stories of my uncle - Please, continue to do so.

Chuck has been signed up for in-home hospice. Doctors predict 2 weeks to 1 month left of life for him, but he is not going down without a fight!

Thank you to everyone who has shared and donated.
Funds from here on out will be going towards payment for the in-home hospice as his wife, Dana will be returning to work on Monday and Chuck cannot be left alone with fears of him falling, or mismanaging his medication. The funds will also be going towards the payment of Chuck's memorial service and any medical bills leftover when that time comes.

We are all working very hard to make this as easy as possible for Chuck's son, Dashiell, who will be 13 in just 3 weeks.
We appreciate, and continue to ask for: your prayers, donations (if possible), and the continuation of sharing this post of Chuck's fight against this horrid disease.

~ Chuck's niece, Cassidy

This is the amazing machine that is saving my life. It’s called SBRT. The Dr is not only an MD but also an oncologist AND a nuclear physicist. They can address a tumor with the precision of a surgeons cut with this machine.

It really is space age. It fascinates me how they can direct a radiation beam to the exact spot that needs to be treated.

3 more treatments and we’re done.

- Chuck
