Rebuild Tucker's Restaurant (Vine)
When I woke up on Tuesday and heard about the fire, I was devastated and wanted to help. Just from paying Tucker's low prices and their limited hours, I knew Joe and Carla are not making tons of money. This is the kind of set back that can close a small restaurant forever. As you can imagine, Joe and Carla have been overwhelmed by what has happened. The early estimate was very low, from a fire inspector the night of the fire. It appears their insurance will not be covering as much as they had hoped. The family is busy getting estimates, calls, inspections; a realistic rebuild budget will take more time, and I hope to post a statement from the family when they have time to make one.
I started this campaign before I had heard a damage estimate - just on the assumption that any extra money would help as the kitchen is closed and they rebuild. The $5K initial goal was my arbitrary guess, and donations quickly rose, I increased the goal. A real kitchen rebuild (replacing damaged appliances, electrical and interior elements, upgrading fire suppression, etc), will likely be far higher. I'm going to increase the goal to $20,000 - again, without hard numbers.
We all hope that the family and place we love will come through this stronger than ever! Feel free to keep posting questions/comments. I'm a stay-at-home dad, so I figured I had more time than most to set this up and help out. The Tucker's family is thrilled about the outpouring of love and support - they are a community asset we can't picture OTR without!!
Thank you all <3
Last night, the kitchen of Tucker's Restaurant was destroyed by fire.
From the Cincinnati.com article:
"Tucker stood across Vine Street watching firefighters work to clear the smoke out of the restaurant his parents opened in 1957.
"I can't change anything that happened," he said. "I have to see what I can do to get the ball rolling again."
Please consider making a donation to help Joe and Carla get the ball rolling again. Please list your favorite dish in the comments!
It's uncertain how long the restaurant will be closed - anything you can spare will be appreciated!
Please come to St. Francis Seraph School at 14 E. Liberty Street on Sunday, Feb 28 for a Pop-up Tucker's, complete with a "favorite hits" menu. Suggested donation is $15. And we've got a few surprise announcements that we know you all will love.
After the Cincinnati magazine article, many people wondered if Tucker's would ever make it back. But our community - you all - have made it clear... We Gotta Have Tucker's!
Kathleen Norris, a realtor who has helped create the restaurant district on Vine Street, helped gather a few teams of people together to form a solid plan for Tucker's reopening. To hear the plan, come to the benefit at St. Francis Seraph, have your favorite Tucker's dish, and donate whatever you can to your favorite OTR diner. And don't forget to share this event page with your friends and family!
Thanks again for all you do.

Progress is moving along slowly, but the Tucker's are receiving help from friends at all levels of skill. Frank Henson has been helping them manage various aspects of the build out. Right now, Jim McMahon, Dave Watkins and John Lowe are helping to fabricate the range hood and exhaust for the kitchen's new oven.
To pay for an eventual opening in 2016, the Tucker's are in the process of selling a building they own. 1635 Vine Street, right next door to the restaurant. Please direct further inquiries to his real estate agent Kathleen Norris. http://www.loopnet.com/profile/11368928420/Kathleen-Norris/
This has been a very difficult and tiring year for Joe & Carla, but your love and support has really made a huge difference so far. If you are able, please consider one last year end gift to help them begin 2016 in a strong way.
Happy New Year Cincinnati!
Come out, show your support, and get your fill of soul music and soul food! The Brotherhood Singers from Northern Kentucky will be performing during FLC's service, and community fellowship & food will be served in the dining hall shortly after.
The event is free and open to anyone. Members of FLC are covering the costs of the food preparation. Free will donations will be accepted, and Joe & Carla will have gift cards and T-shirts available for purchase. Got a question about how the rebuild is going? Come on out and talk to the Tucker's! We'll see you there!
Tomorrow is the City Flea, and the Tucker's will be in the Taste of Belgium tent, selling gift cards and T-shirts. In Washington Park, 10am - 4pm.
Sunday they will be at Park + Vine for Second Sundays on Main, Noon - 5pm, selling gift cards and T's.
Three great opportunities to see the Tucker's, talk about the rebuild and help contribute!
Thanks again for all you do, and hope to see you out this weekend!
First Kimberly, anything I give to help the Tuckers is not given blindly. I personally know the Tuckers. They are amazingly giving people. I wouldn't hesitate to give anything I can. Second, this gofundme account wad not set up by the Tuckers but for the Tuckers by a member of the OTR community. I will not humor your ignorance and plain disregard for humanity any further.. Kudos to all who are helping these wonderful people!
Please remember that Carla and Joe always give back to our community.. Through their service to rhe Church, the OTR community, as patrons of Findlay Market and their neighbors. They help others in need, it is only right to help them when they need us. Janet Ach and @Roger Aach
I was stoked when they raised it to 10k. I thought the sentiment of raising funds was great but would no way be near enough for any real renovation work which Tucker's will clearly need. This crowd fund was not created by the owners of Tuckers but a community member who wanted us to gather and rally in support of this amazing restaurant and the folks who've been running it for years and the community who gather here.
@Kimberly, you can ask all the question you want; just don't be surprised if some people mistake your motives for asking. On the subject of insurance and just for fun, call your agent and ask about fire insurance on a 100-plus year old building in OTR with grandfathered electrical and other systems. Start a stopwatch when he or she starts laughing and let us know how long the laughter continues. The short answer is that insurance on that sort of building is not available until it has been substantially rehabbed. In a comment between your and Renee's last comments, I gave my estimate for what it will take to repair the damage as it has been described.
Wait, Kimberly... Who are you and why do you need an explanation? Recovering from a fire is a very hard and expensive thing. Donate or don't, end of story. The Tucker's are amazing people and I'm sure they are eternally gratefully for all the help people are willing to give.
The damage estimate was extremely low, the commercial grade range, frig, freezer are ruined. The electrical system is melted. The ceiling was torn apart by the fire department, floor needs to be replaced and the smoke damage is extensive. Food is gone, pounds and pounds of goetta alone. Can you imagine replacling everything with $5k??
Read the story in Cincinnati Magazine today (11/20/15) -- can we get an update here?

Amanda, will you create a Fb event and post the link on this thread? Thanks for hosting, great idea!!

@ReneeLaguna If you're going to a public forum and asking people to give you money - I think one has every right to ask where the money is going and why they doubled what they were asking for - and what about insurance? You can blindly give all you want - I have questions before I give up any of my hard earned money.
Do they not have fire insurance? It seems like something a restaurant should definitely have.
I feel like it's a legit question.
The first time I checked this page the goal was 5K - now it's 10K - what's the deal - the damage estimate is 5K. I"m gonna need an explanation.
