Let’s Help Tyler Thrive!

In February 2018 at aged 6 months Twin Tyler Ryan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Only one child every two years is diagnosed with this form of cancer.

Tyler and his Twin Brother Scott are sons of local Charleville girl Margo Walsh and her Husband Stephen Ryan of Athlacca.

The twin’s beautiful older sister Lily Kate is almost 4 and is in Pre School in Ballyhea. Lily Kate dotes on having two little twin bothers to play with and She loves being an older sister.

Just a few days after Margo returned to full time work after being on Maternity leave Tyler took ill. Like all parent’s you know that children get sick and you do what you can, but Margo and Stephen knew something was not right with their little boy. Margo and Stephen pursued Tyler’s ailments and to their horror their little boy had cancer.

With both parent now back working full time, Tyler taking ill came as a huge blow to the young family who were just starting to get in to the rhythm of having a busy house hold with three kids under 4 and two parents working full time.

Before Tyler had reached his first birthday he had already undergone extensive courses of treatment and blood transfusions. After seeking many medical opinions and exploring various holistic approaches Margo and Stephen were left with no option only to face major surgery for young Tyler by removing his bladder, Urethra and prostrate.

At the tender age of 14 months Tyler has already been through so much but his eyes light up when his family members enter the room, he is such a pleasant little boy despite the hardship he is going through. This is a little boy that is full of love and happiness as he is surrounded by it every day.

Tyler has a long tough road of recovery ahead of him, the details of which his family are still unsure of. Aside from the cancer Tyler will need physio and additional support as he is not as matured as his twin brother Scott. Tyler has not had the opportunity to develop like Scott as he was fighting his own little battle. He will need to have his bladder reconstructed under another Major surgery at age 4.

Since Tyler has taken ill and been diagnosed with cancer, both Margo and Stephen have devoted their time to looking after Tyler, Scott and Lily Kate. Rotating parental duties, one taking Tyler to his many medical appointments while the other is keeping run of the household and trying to keep a sense of normality for Scott and Lily Kate. Tyler attends up to 15 medical appointments a month between limerick and Dublin.

Unfortunately, Family and friends are very limited in the level of support we can provide as Tyler’s immune system is very low and Margo and Stephen need to take all measures possible to keep his immune system strong. Yet, when you meet Margo and Stephen they always have a smile and a kind caring word to share with you. They commend the support they receive, and they praise the medical staff that look after Tyler. Always praising others, looking after their three kids and never thinking of themselves.

Margo and Stephen are a proud young couple that are always at hand to help and support others. As a community it is now our turn to support them. This page has been set up by Margo and Stephens friends to show them we are behind them, supporting them every step of the way. Just like on many occasions Margo and Stephen have supported us in our time of need.

We want our friends to be able focus solely on Tyler so he gets the best treatment possible and we get him home to full health with his family soon.
