Help me represent Australia!!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shaun Mott and I am 21 years of age and have Becker Muscular Dystrophy, which is a progressive muscle wasting disorder.

I have recently been selected in a nine player squad to represent Australia at the Powerchair Hockey World Championships.
The competition will be held in Italy, between September 22 and October 1, 2018.

Sport has always been a major part of my life, whether I’d be watching sports or playing them. From kicking the footy in the backyard, to playing Auskick, then attempting to play footy for a year, (never actually got near the ball in my short ten game career). I soon realised I wasn’t going to get any better or stronger and that my sporting career was all but over, that was until I discovered Powerchair Sports, more specifically Powerchair Hockey a little over two years ago.
In the short time I’ve been playing, I’ve represented Victoria and won two Hockey titles at the National Electric Wheelchair Sports (NEWS) competition in Sydney. I have rediscovered my love and passion for sport and I am very excited and honoured to be able to represent Australia in Powerchair Hockey.

Powerchair Hockey is a modified version of Hockey for Powerchair users. It is similar to Floorball/Ice Hockey and is played on an indoor basketball court. Powerchair Hockey is a fast-paced, tactical game and an excellent spectator sport. The sport was birthed in Europe in the 1970’s and although it has been played in New South Wales since 2000, it has only just recently had its inaugural National Championships this year. Australia first competed in the 2004 World Cup Hockey Competition, in Helsinki. The Australian team was ranked 8th at the 2014 Electric Wheelchair Championship held in Munich, Germany. The game is gaining international recognition and a growing network of athletes and fans.

I am looking for support within the community to get me to Italy with the right equipment and supports needed in order for me to represent Australia. My family and I have to fund a 10-day trip that includes training and a week of competition. Currently, there is little to no financial support for Powerchair sports and therefore all costs must be funded by the athlete.

I am hoping to raise $10,000 to cover the costs for myself and a carer for accommodation, travel to Italy and trips to Sydney and Adelaide for training camps with the team.

Any support whether that be a donation or a share will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Shaun
