SURROGACY STRUGGLE

Donation protected
Hi,

My name is Chloe and at the age of 21 I was diagnosed with a rare cancer. This lead to extensive chemotherapy and surgery which took my uterus and only left my left ovary. Years have passed and as with all cancer survivors, the remnants of it are apparent in day to day life. I knew that one day I would have to face the fact that I do not have a uterus and therefore cannot bear kids. I have been blessed enough to meet the man of my dreams and we now want a family of our own. This means IVF to cultivate my eggs and also a surrogate to carry our baby.

The good news is my mum is willing to have our baby, she has had the all clear from medical professionals to go ahead. We knew that this process would be costly however we were not prepared for the mammoth costs involved in surrogacy.Having already spent thousands on IVF, we are now at a standstill, facing $40,000 in lawyers fees for papers to go ahead with Surrogacy agreement. We were not prepared for this, this is my own mother and yet we have to pay lawyers for paperwork.

Not only do we need a surrogacy agreement BUT after the baby is born we then need to take my mother to court just to get my name on the birth certificate, normally court is for when 2 parties do not agree but we both agree. Court fees alone are $8,000 plus another $8,000 for my mother's lawyer.

I have two goals, one is to raise awareness for others in my position. These costs are exorbitant and for those who are in a position where they cannot carry a child, they have already endured enough heartache and hardship, to be slapped with these fees due to circumstances beyond our control is unfair. I want these fees to be abolished in cases where surrogacy is not a choice but the only way. I have already been interviewed by Daily Telegraph and have channel 7 interview coming up. I will not stop.

My second goal is for my fiancé and I to have a baby. My mother is 49 and we don’t have much time. We are reaching out to the community to help us realise our dream of completing our family. I’m terrified that the process of changing these laws will be too slow and by the time they do change, it would be too late for us.

It’s going to be a hard fight against the government but I will not give up. Join us in the fight and help many more in my position to realise their dream, a dream that for most is natural and cost free.

Much Love,

Chloe and Dimitri
