Latitude's Medical Initiative

Donation protected

If you watched the video on this page, you have hopefully gained a bit of insight into what the Latitude Project is about. This BC based non-profit organization, founded by sisters Alanna and Jennifer Tynan from Nelson, BC has spearheaded impactful international development projects over the years. These projects have included those in support of education, housing and clean water in different parts of Nicaragua and Latin America. These two young extraordinary women- who I’m lucky enough to call my friends- have dedicated themselves to giving back to the people and families of these communities.

On Sunday, October 11, 2015 I will be running in the GoodLife Fitness Victoria half marathon and until then I will be raising money in support of Latitude launching its newest project in Nicaragua. This is an entirely new medical project that will betaking place in the southwestern Pacific coastal town of San Juan del Sur.

Objective:
To bring sustainable, accessible health care to 6 remote communities in the San Juan region of Nicaragua. The Project’s focus will be on disease treatment and prevention.

Beneficiary Communities:
There are 4 beneficiary sectors, servicing 6 communities in total. Communities are located in the province of Rivas, near the municipality of San Juan.

Through Access to Medical:
These 4 sectors currently do not have access to healthcare besides the difficult travel to a facility located more than 55 km away. Access to a personal vehicle is very limited or non-existent. There are public buses that travel close to some of the sectors, travelling to the city of Rivas in the morning and returning in the late evening. Many of the families in these communities simply can’t afford the cost of the bus let alone any medical supplies. So what are we going to do about this?

Preliminary Project Budget:
The preliminary timeline of this project is set to run for 6 months. After this time period, the project’s success will be re-evaluated and a revised project will continue depending on the need demonstrated. It’s going to cost approximately $2,783USD/month for 6 months to provide the truck rental, driver, translator, a general physician, nurse, per diems, and medical supplies three times a week.

Please join us  by helping us launch this exciting pilot project. I’m asking for a financial contribution of any size in support of creating long lasting social change by helping residents of these communities’ live longer, healthier and more profitable lives. After all “it is health that is real wealth.” If making a donation is not in the cards for you please spread the word to your contacts via social media.

Thank you family, friends and friends-of-friends for your support!

Much Love and Gratitude,
Steph & the Girls from Latitude
