Jordan suffered a major spinal cord injury on 11-22-13 at his Santiago CIF play off football game against Upland in the 1st quarter. He immediately lost all movement and sensation from his neck down. He was transported to Riverside Community Hospital Trauma Center after the injury. After evaluation there, he was transported to Loma Linda Hospital. There he had surgery to realign his vertebrae and relieve pressure from his spinal cord. He remained in critical but stable condition. He was then transferred to Kaiser Fontana, a new state of the art facility. After a second evaluation, doctors discovered a blown out disc that was putting pressure on the front of his spinal cord. Kaiser's doctor Mehta preformed a second surgery to remove the blown out disk. He now remains in critical condition and is battling a lung infection. After Jordan gets out of ICU, he will face a 12 month rehabilitation to try to relearn life skills with little or no movement. Jordan is a 16 year old athlete having the battle of his life. As parents we are hoping and praying or a complete recovery. Please consider Jordan in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
I wanted to send an update regarding Jordan's treatment. As all of you know he has had many different treatments these last 2 years with his travels to Colorado and Orange County, also working with a variety of therapists locally. He has worked extremely hard and is still making big progress today with his physical therapy. What you may or may not know is Jordan just recently made a huge trip to Switzerland (in fact he is still there) to start stem cell treatment, one of the biggest and most costly treatments he will undergo.
The goal with stem cell treatment is to regenerate the nerve cells to start connecting neurological pathways so that Jordan can gain more and more function. He should start seeing results over this next month or two.
An update from Jordan about the treatment.
"They extracted bone marrow from my Pelvis and separated the Stem Cells from the red blood cells. They then put the red blood cells back in through an IV and injected the stem cells into my L5 (spine). After that I had to lay on my back for 24 hours. The next four days consisted of vitamins through an IV to feed the stem cells and also electrical stimulation on my upper body for 30 minutes.
The days they did electric stimulation and IV, I was pooped."
SO THIS IS WHERE WE, AS A FAMILY, UNITE AND RALLY AGAIN FOR SUPPORT FOR JORDAN AND HIS FAMILY. Please spread the word again about this site. Share it with all of your family and friends in hopes that people will pledge who haven't yet, or if you have already donated, you may be apt to donate more. We are coming together to help with the huge cost of this treatment and for future sessions as well!
This family is the best and what we have accomplished so far on this site is absolutely wonderful. I know The Walker family greatly appreciates everything everyone has done so far! Let's keep this going for Jordan!!

Jordan and family...You have no idea the impact you have made on myself and my 15 y.o. Son, in the past year...2 people you have never met, face to face. Lukas has been so inspired by Jordan, in fact, even joined the Freshman Football team at his school, playing for the first time, since he was 7. You all inspire me, as well...I have MS and am very weak, especially on the left. At some point, I will be paralyzed, but following Jordan's journey has shown me that it won't be life-ending, just life-changing. As a parent, I thank you. As a person, I thank you. Keep up the good work! And tell Rikki hi, from Kris and Lukas!
I was just at a presentation last night by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to fund their Big Idea. They have done a pilot study implanting an epidural stimulation device with four young men that has resulted in all of them recovering bowel, bladder, and sexual function, as well as temperature control. They are raising money to fund the next phase of implanting the device (already commonly used for pain in patients) in an additional 36 people. http://www.reevebigidea.org/
