Fly Anabela To Boston

$52,697 of $65,500 goal

Hi, I’m Sarah and Anabela is my beautiful 4yr old daughter, she is happy and full of love, light and life. She is my hero.

Anabela needs to get to Boston to further evaluate a rare congenital heart anomaly, ultimately requiring life threatening surgery.

Sadly for us, (me and her) this trip is a costly expense to get her there and with her other complex and costly pre-existing medical issues, money is a hard thing to come across for a single mum like me.

This surgery has not been performed on a child in Australia. This is why I am seeking your support.

This heart anomaly is a missplaced artery known as an Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery. This artery is trapped between Anabela's spine, esophagus and trachea.

This artery is compressing and pulsating on both her esophagus (food tube) and trachea (airway) this, in turn ends up choking her and rendering her unable to swallow and breath, on a regular basis and has been monitored by Sydney Children’s Hospital.

How soon do we need to go?

ASAP. I have been asked today 20th June 2018 via email to have Anabela in Boston for procedure’s by end August 2018 (before the American Winter really starts to hit) I need to organize and obtain our passports, visas and return flights.

Anabela will start kindergarten next year and I would like her first year at school as minimally interrupted by surgical procedures as possible.

Boston’s Medical bills must be paid upfront and before admission and I aim for full payment to be made by end of July 2018.

Any substantial financial contribution can be made directly to the hospital if that option best suits you and I can forward you the appropriate invoices.

Insurance will not pay or contribute to this medical expense as Anabela’s long list of congenital conditions void her.

I am not eligible for a loan as I receive a carers’ pension due to Anabela’s need for ongoing fulltime care.

A list of expected expenses are as follows.

• USD$30,000 - 3D Ct Angiogram, Endoscopy and Bronoscopy, including the room, surgical procedure, anesthesia, drugs, labs, radiology and recovery.
• USD$10,000 - backup for unforeseen procedure’s such as echocardiography, x-rays, pathology and laboratory tests and clinic visits.
• AUD$7,500 – Air fares to, and living expenses while in Boston
• AUD$5,000 - go fund me fees

At the current exchange rates I need to raise approx AUD$65,500.

Why am I asking for your help?

My only form of income is a fortnightly carers’ pension which provides Anabela and I with everything we need, and in fact we manage quite well on this budget, though we don’t have money left over to save.

I do not own a home to sell. We had to be relocated through NSW housing when Anabela was just 22 months old, over 100km away from family and friends so we could be close to Sydney Children’s Hospital, and we are extremely fortunate to be housed by NSW Housing.

AUD$65,500 - is a lot of money.

These expenses are all significant and necessary and I cannot obtain these funds for my beautiful daughter in any way other than to ask for your help to make this all possible and it goes without saying as to how grateful I would be if you were able to help with these expenses.

Thanks for reading.

If you’d like to help get Anabela to America, any donation you can spare, no matter how small, would put her that step closer to saving her life.

Hello Everyone.

The update you've all been waiting for... Results are in.

The Aberrant right subclavian artery is causing 100%tracheal collapse and 50%esophageal obstruction with pulsations where the artery is situated to both organs and the sole reason for her choking episodes and NOT contributed to, by her existing tracheoesophageal fistula esophageal atreaia repair.

The Artery has to be moved, so.

Surgery is needed to relocate the Aberrant Right Subclavian Artery, she will not grow out of this condition, rather it WILL continue to cause food to get trapped in her esophagus and in turn collapse her trachea 100% and place Anabela at high risk when she eat as, crying, exercising etc.

Cost... USD 1/2 million cost to relocate the artery and I need to wait for a plan as to where we go from here regarding this cost and where it will be preformed.

when? I'm not sure yet.

where? that is to be confirmed.

who? Dr Jennings WILL be doing the surgery, but whether it be performed here in Boston at a later date or in Australia at a later date. It all comes down to what's talked about between teams in both countries.

There is great news coming from this but planning is needed and once there is confirmation I will reveal more details.

Give me time to have all this sink in and I will elaborate further.

Anabela spent just over 4hrs in theatre and is in ICU sleeping and very groggy and not feeling well at all, she has gotten up once and walked to the bathroom, vomited, is hungry but can't eat atm as she is in a lot of oral and internal pain so her body is resting and restoring her reserves now. 2.5-3hrs worth of dental work has been forfilled
and will have a visit from the tooth fairy and due to the extent of dental, will receive the invoice within the next 2-3 days.

You have all been so wonderful. Thank you for everything you've done for Anabela.

keep sharing xox love us

Update time on Fly Anabela To Boston!!

Soooo proud of Anabela! Terri our host mum/Nanna took us into our appointment at Boston children's thisarvo.. Again Anabela happily wondered into the dental rooms with head held high, befriending her dental nurse and jumped into the chair, asking "ok so where are the sunnies" hahaha nurse asking what? Haha then Anabela explaining she needed them cause of the light hahahahahah... "sunnies" acquired!! Then showing the Dr and her nurse her dental care routine... "ok now this is my tooth paste and you put it.. Hey mum, help with the lid.. ok so um you put it on the brush and do this... "brushing teeth" then asks for a cup to gargle and rince.... then showed her tooth moose and dry mouth gel.

Well the dentist was astounded, asked to see the paste which is the oral B kids and said wow that's a good toothpaste and was more then happy with Anabela dental care.

2 teeth need be extracted, a silver casing on her k9 and a crown on her back top moler. The rest of Anabelas teeth look good!!! Bad news is.... there is quite a lot of bone eaten away from the infection that had formed in her front tooth that should have been removed 30th of December 2017!!! Of which I don't need to verbalize my feelings on that now, do I!!!!! Grrrrrr!!!! And yes I was asked, why haven't they capped her teeth already and all I could say was I honestly don't know, I had asked them but they said no, again I was asked why, so I said I do not know why, they also were shocked as to how many procedures she has had over 2yrs for dental work...

As the dentist was counting teeth on the bottom she mentioned.. oh a wobbly tooth haha Anabela took about 10 seconds to catch on and with a mouth full of fingers, mirror and a tooth "counter" hook, Anabela said " a obbly ooth!?!?! Ahhh es!!! So excited for a wobbly tooth!!!!

Haha well with smiles all around, a dental plan and work order has been set, an hour of dental work is needed and a technician will need to be sourced as they have 2 patients to tend too the day of planned procedure...

I will receive quote either tomorrow or Thursday!! Not looking forward to that cost but it has to be done and I'm not keen for Anabela to go under back home in January for more dental work.. so it will be done here no matter the cost.

Because Anabela did so well in her Appoint, our host mother/Nanna took us out for a nice meal at Boarders Cafe!!! Great way to finish a long day

Keep sharing Anabelas Gofund me, as this dental could reach 5k and I only have 1/2 that funding. So share peeps, share Anabelas gofund me and donate.. my birthday is next week and would love you to donate to anabela as a b'day gift to me.

I will post the invoice as soon as it hits my inbox.. xoxo

Thanks a bunch everyone!!
Love Sarah and Anabela
good ol Captain Starlight at it again!!

Hello Everyone,

We have had a lovely week settling in and our host family are amazing!!!

Monday, as I updated was our first appointment and that was with the International Nurse of whom I went through a list of meds and confirmed treatment.

Upon meeting, dental was discussed and an appoint was being made. We have the dental appointment now and see the clinic on Tuesday, to confirm extractions under General Anesthesia alongside the other procedures on the 9th of November under General.

I received the invoice of USD$1,299.00 and today, thanks to you, I have paid the invoice. This amounted to AUD$1,822.41. this amount does not include the cost of extractions.

I expect, USD$90-300 per tooth to be extracted but again I will not know till Tuesday after the dental appointment.

With your help, a total of $50,553.00 in medical costs have been paid for!!! give yourselves a huge pat on the back!!

In total raised so far is $51,837.00!! Everybody give yourselves a big round of applause!!

AUD$1,284 Is the emergency medical funds available, that's USD$864.00

Please keep sharing, we still need to reach target of goal set for any new medical expenses needed.

Thank you all so much for your kind support and the generous donations you have invested in my daughter and the emotional support you've given to me.

Much Love to you and your families,
Love Anabela and Sarah xoxox (and the starlight crew keeping it fun)
