This small donation means a child like Rowan can stay close to his family at Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon—a temporary home for families who must travel to Vancouver for their seriously ill child’s medical treatment. For Rowan, the best part of staying at the House was settling in for the night to a bedtime story with Mom.
The Loran Family
At just 18 months old, Rowan was diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome, a rare genetic bleeding disorder. For Rowan, a small bump could turn into a huge bruise or internal bleeding, and any sickness at all meant time in the hospital. In desperate need of a bone marrow transplant, Rowan and his family needed to stay for four months in Vancouver. Luckily, they found a home together at Ronald McDonald House, so Rowan could receive treatment at BC Children's Hospital.

For over thirty years, Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon has been providing accommodation for seriously ill children and their families when they must travel to Vancouver for their child’s major treatment. The House serves 2,000 families each year in 73 spacious suites.
On June 2, 2014, the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Surrey Memorial Hospital was also opened. A House within the hospital, the Ronald McDonald Family Room serves over 700 families each year, and is a welcoming refuge for families of children admitted for treatment.
