My Story

In April 2012, I was diagnosed with Male Breast Cancer. Yes, men can get breast cancer too! I found a lump in my chest and it took 6 months to get properly diagnosed and 7 months before I had a double mastectomy and started chemo. Too many times, I ran into hurdles because the breast cancer treatment system is designed almost exclusively for women. For example, every form I filled out related to my cancer treatment was targeted for women: When was your last menstrual cycle? Who is your gynecologist? When was your last mammogram? And so on. I just sat there in disbelief that there wasn’t one question pertaining to me. Even the sign outside the doctor’s office read “Wellness Center for Women.” Really? What about men? Shouldn’t it have read “Wellness Center for Men and Women”?

After my second chemo treatment, as I rested on my couch, I had an epiphany… I had to advocate on behalf of male breast cancer patients. It was my calling, my destiny, and that was the beginning of Protect the Pecs . For the past five years, I’ve been doing everything I can to spread awareness about male breast cancer and advocate for men with breast cancer. Men need to know about breast cancer, so they can catch it early and get properly diagnosed and treated, and they also need to know that they’re not alone. I’ve dedicated my life to helping men with breast cancer.

A few months ago, I connected with the team at Driver , a first-in-kind treatment access platform for cancer patients that is partnered with 30+ of the top cancer centers in the U.S., including the National Cancer Institute. They absolutely blew me away with how they are transforming cancer patients’ lives and I immediately wanted to get involved. So, I partnered with them through Protect the Pecs on the spot!

Every cancer patient needs Driver!

Guys, WE ALL NEED DRIVER! I want every male (and female) breast cancer patient and survivor in the world to have Driver. And the first step is for me to become the first male breast cancer survivor to get it! I’m launching this GoFundMe campaign to get Driver for myself and inspire other male breast cancer patients and survivors to join me in getting Driver.

Let’s do this!

We are in this together! I need two things from you: 1) I need you to help to reach my campaign goal, so I can get Driver, and 2) I need you to launch a GoFundMe campaign to get Driver for yourself, a friend or a loved one! Driver is here to help you set up your GoFundMe campaign and will even contribute the first $100 to your campaign to get you started. So, please call Driver  [phone redacted] and someone on their superstar team will answer all of your questions and help you join their platform!

Why We All Need Driver

Have you been treated for cancer in the past and want to ensure that you’re receiving the very best follow-up care? And do you want to ensure that you have all the best treatment options at your fingertips in case your cancer ever comes back? I sure do.

The first step to taking control of your cancer care is taking control of your information! Your records and tumor sample are locked away in some hospital, but the first thing that happens when you join Driver is that they liberate your records and sample for you and put them under your control. Driver then works with you to create a personalized survivorship plan that meets the most current guidelines. Are you getting the most updated follow-up care? It’s an outrage that so few American cancer patients and survivors actually receive adequate survivorship care!

Or, if you’ve recently been diagnosed or are currently receiving treatment, do you want to ensure you know about all of your treatment options?

How crazy is it that you’re only aware of the treatments your doctor tells you about?! You have no idea what else is out there and in no other scenario in your life would you settle for that. This lack of access is “normal” when you have cancer, but not when you buy a book on Amazon, or a meal on Grubhub, or a book a room on Airbnb. Driver’s flagship product is Hyperdrive, AND I WISH I’D HAD THIS WHEN I WAS SICK!!! Hyperdrive simultaneously evaluates you for treatment at over 30 of the best cancer centers in the world (as if you’ve traveled to each hospital and met every doctor there)! Driver uses your comprehensive medical history and molecular profile to determine your eligibility for clinical trials at their partner cancer centers (check out the map of their partners – they have everyone!).

Once you've chosen a treatment and a cancer center to pursue, Driver gets an appointment for you and delivers a complete dossier of your profile to that center. And if you ever need additional treatment options, they will match you for life. This is truly transformative for me, for you and for every cancer patient and survivor in the world. The fear that there’s something out there that you don’t know about is A THING OF THE PAST!

Where do the funds go?

This campaign funds credit for my Driver account and will cover the cost of my membership and five years of monthly dues ($495 + $30/month) and Hyperdrive is included at no additional cost (a $6,000 value) after I’ve been a member for 12 months. Also, after joining Driver, I’ll have exclusive access to Driver ON, a service that connects you over video to the best experts in the world (talk about the future!). 100% of funds raised above my campaign goal will go to helping men and women in the Protect the Pecs  community get Driver.
