 MORGAN MILL, TX
Hi Everyone
Just want to share some devastating news about Jake...
He and Junior we're practicing yesterday and Jakes horse fell and ended up stepping on his head
Jake was taken to a trauma center last night.
He has a traumatic head injury ( bleeding and bruising on the brain) and a broken ankle.
He is alert and talking but is very sick while dealing with the swelling and will be for several days, maybe weeks.
The head injury will need time and lots of peaceful rest.
It is too dangerous for him to compete with Junior at the NFR this year.
We are getting lots of love and care calls and texts
I will try and update as it unfolds. It is just too difficult to keep
up with them all during this time.
For now I need to focus on him and he needs Prayers and rest and privacy until he is completely out of the woods and feeling better.
Thank you ahead of time for your prayers, support and love for my husband, the most amazing man I know!
God Bless and
Good luck to our friends, every cowboy and cowgirl competing in Vegas !

As we close Jake's Gofundme page, Jake and I want to send a heartfelt Thank You to everyone who donated. Small or large, each one was sincerely appreciated!
You all have no idea the impact it made and we were truly moved by the love and support shown to us.
May God Bless you all and He be all the Glory!

Toni's Facebook post from this morning...
Hi y'all
Waking up this morning reflecting on all the prayers and messages, Jake and I know and can feel God's presence. He is so alive!
Jake is resting. He has to stay very quiet for a couple of weeks until his first follow up appointment with the neurologist .He is doing a little better everyday.
Today is Elevation Sunday in Vegas. Every time we have been to the NFR, the fellowship meetings after the performance back in the day, time spent with Ted and Linda in their hospitality tent or now the Elevation Sunday, were and are the highlight of our week. We hope you can make it.
Life can change in an instant, love one another, stay happy and live securely in the arms of God our Father and His beautiful son Jesus!

Jake Barnes update! PLEASE PLEASE ! SHARE !
Jake is out of the hospital and doing better. The next thing that needs to happen is he needs rest, it will probably be a couple months to let his brain heal. Toni has asked for privacy from everyone, no visits or calls. The doctors have advised a calm, peaceful environment without brain stimulation. Some people that love Jake will want to go see him, and I understand that, but please don't drop by without being invited. You can leave your messages on Facebook and the gofundme page, that is how we have been communicating with her. Toni has been reading to Jake all of the comments and messages that everyone has sent and they appreciate every one of them.
The rumor that Jake is now dumb as a heeler is false, Jake is coming back smart as ever! hahaha, he will love that comment later on, but seriously we all love the Barnes family and we need to keep helping in Jakes healing. If you are one of Jake's rodeo buddies don't call him, he will want to talk to you but his brain doesn't need that for a while, he needs rest.
As far as the fundraising goes we have raised about 75,000. Jake and Toni are so thankful and appreciative of all that everyone has given...every amount, small and large, along with all the prayers and words of encouragement. I would like to raise another 75,000. Just the helicopter ride Jake was in can cost 15,000 - 30,000, so I would like to raise enough to pay all the medical costs and enough so Jake doesn't have to worry about making a living for awhile. One person had made a comment why does he need money he's rich, well for one thing no one has ever got rich roping. But the facts are, for every roper it's like farming, you plant and water all year and then the NFR is where you harvest your crop. Well, Jake didn't get to harvest his crop this year, a tornado came through and almost killed him and took his crop away! We as other farmers are sharing our crops with him because we love him! Toni said she feels strange about taking help with this money, but money is just seed to replant their crop that we are sending because we love Jake and Toni.
Thanks my cowboy family for your giving, patience and love in this life journey of a great man that has given so much to all of us.

Update from Toni this morning:

Hello Rodeo Family !
Overwhelmed by all of you this morning.
We know God is with us and know He will use this for His Glory and we give it to Him!
We are so moved and blown away by what our dear friends Rickey and Kelly Green have done for us and the generosity of each of you!
I was able to start reading to Jake some of the comments you are posting, it is so emotional for us.
We know that rodeo and the team roping world are one big family.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts !
Jake was moved out of ICU last
night.
He can try to eat solid food today for the first time ( he hasn't eaten since Friday )
Praying he can hold it down.
I'm so happy about those 2 changes this morning.
Making some progress !
(For those close friends who have been asking, It will be a couple of weeks before he is able to have visitors because he can only tolerate things for a few minutes at a time but that will be here soon enough )
Thank you from Jake and I and our family
May God Bless each of you today !

Our Family's Prayers are with your family and obviously as shown here there is the power of more...guardians in numbers. When I read the posts above and some of the whys and for whats one may ask.... I have an answer for that... One should never feel odd about receiving the kindness of a gift of a hand UP from so many hearts...because I'm sure when need be and the time was right you have not nor would hesitate to hold your hand out to someone who needed a gift of someone reaching to give them a hand back up again.... Rich....what does that mean.... pennies and dollars and any shiny bobble does not define the value of the people getting up every morning and feeding the children.....and grooming all the pretty horses that carried one there to accomplish the task.... or taking one in and giving and sharing ones table ....to provide the hearts that have patience and teach....to selflessly agree to open the gate that allows another heart to move up and carry the very same priceless values forward to another one after them.... Dollars and cents.... simply only totals up to an amount of necessary exchange that fuels the people to get up every morning and do it all again .....and again and again.... Everyone here who has pitched in...... My prayers are also for you.... Now.... Ill go ahead and toss out my more me direct side....forewarning sometimes that side gets me in trouble...sometimes people who are real relate...and sometimes its found to be entertaining.... Alfalfa this week.... 18.50 per bail....the hard working horses who do the other half the work the hardworking cowboy can"t?.... They get grumpy and testy if they go without or get shorted in any way shape or form.... I know this because the 4 legged toddler out in my corrals says so..... The boots wear out...the house gets a little in disarray when taking care of the one you love ... sometimes we all just get too tired to cook.... or feed or muck .... oh my tires on trailers and trucks and ..... and and and..... For Toni..... order dinner in.....call on someone else to keep the house in good shape for awhile .... because if somebody else cooks and keeps the door mat straight and goes out everyday and throws the feed around for a minute because others wanted to make sure you could.... and it frees up a few more minutes to simply sit with your equal the very good hearted Man...who next to you as a team ... worked hard to selflessly give away many " seeds" in some way or form ..... for someone else to start some kind of crop and harvest something good from ..... take a load off and ...order dinners in....

Jake, God is with you, and he will see you through this. In 1994, I sustained a traumatic brain injury, while barrel racing at a high school rodeo. My love for rodeo, and barrel racing, never lessened. The road to recovery is long, and often, up-hill, but I know you'll overcome this, because you're a cowboy!!!

Jake, your one of the toughest I know. You have so much love and admiration as well as being an inspiration. It takes a special kind of tough to wear the badge of Cowboy or Cowgirl. Let alone one of the greatest ropers ever. Oregon has you and Your loved ones covered in prayer. As well as Junior. You just heal up and we can't wait to see that smile and you back roping again. God keep, bless and watch over you. Ms. Dawna
