Issy’s Wheelchair Car

$6,335 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 69 people in 9 months
My daughter Isabella recently turned 3 years old. She is a bright little girl, with a beautiful soul and heart. Isabella has had very severe brain damage since birth, which brings a life time of challenges and difficulties. It is a road unfamiliar to me, but I am learning everyday and Issy and I are navigating the challenges as best we can.

Issy has been diagnosed with dyskinetic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. This means she cannot walk, or talk. She is a prisoner in her own body. She also suffers from a range of related conditions and discomforts including seizures, strabismus, hip dislocations, dystonia, pain in her muscles, sensory processing disorder and difficulty regulating her temperature. I understand that it is possibly overwhelming to read about, but what all these things really mean, is that Issy will never get to experience life in the same way as you or I. Despite the challenges, Issy’s light shines bright, and she is very engaged and aware. She smiles and engages with people and the world around her in her own unique ways.

The chair - Recently Issy has begun to learn to drive a powered wheelchair. Gaining this independence is becoming increasingly important for Issy as she grows, and finds new ways to experience the world around her - just like any child.  For Issy, the wheelchair enables her to gain confidence, independence, and promotes her growth and development. It is a wonderful opportunity for her happiness and quality of life.

The vehicle - It has become evident however, that to transport Issy and her wheelchair, I need to purchase a new vehicle. These vehicles must comply with numerous safety requirements and standards. Quotes for second hand vehicles suitable for transporting powered wheelchairs that meet the criteria we need to be scripted range from $40’000 - $60’000. This will however, suit Issy’s needs for many years. It will allow us to attend appointments and school, enable her involvement in the community, and accomodate her physical growth.

The funding - We are lucky to have the support of our local Cerebral Palsy League (CPL) organisation in applying for additional funding, however there will certainly be a considerable financial gap. We have submitted numerous applications for additional funding to a range of organisations, such as Variety QLD  and the Brisbane Broncos, and we’re hopeful we receive a kind and helpful response. Some ($9000) government funding is likely to be available to us under the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) and we are in the process of compiling the application for this funding as well. The NDIS will be rolled out in our area next year, so at this stage, is not of any assistance to us.

I understand we all have our own challenges in life. From a front row seat I have witnessed Issy face her challenges, which have been greater than I ever could have imagined. I didn’t expect to be with her on this journey, but I feel privileged to share it with her. She has taught me much about determination, bravery, and positivity. Watching her beautiful way win over the hearts of people she meets has become apart of my daily experience.

Issy needs your help, and any contribution or sharing of Issy’s story, will be accepted with grace and gratitude. Every little bit helps. I will keep you updated with any developments as we move towards our goal. Thanks so much for joining us on our journey - I am very appreciative of your time and support, and I know that Issy is too.

Lauren and Issy x.

We are now only $4726.35 short of securing and owning Isabella’s wheelchair vehicle after being approved for a $7381 donation from the Reuben Pelerman Benevolent Foundation and securing $9250 from the Vehicle options subsidy scheme this week. With the other secured funds from fundraising, Aussie Kidz Charity, The Lions club and the Brisbane Broncos we are so very close. If we could raise another $726.35 on Issy’s go fund me page it will leave us with a $4000 balance which her team of therapists feel is very achievable. I am hopeful that by sharing our story we can and will achieve a total of $6000 raised through her current go fund me campaign. I am grateful to anyone who has donated (some having done so multiple times) and am more than appreciative to those who have shared our story. We are almost there. Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity.
With love Lauren and Issy

It’s going on 6 months since we started our journey of fundraising money for a wheelchair car for Issy. We have been proactive in approaching different charities and funding options that are available to Issy with much appreciated support from her team of specialists and we are so humbled by the generosity of certain individuals and experiences along the way. Unfortunately, the last 6 months have been really tough for Issy as well as myself. She’s faced a lot more challenges in her short life than any parent ever hopes for their child but the last couple of months have been really difficult as Issy has been particularly unwell. Issy has been having a lot of seizures - hundreds per day and unfortunately her epilepsy is very rare and is deeming very difficult to manage and control. We have taken a backward step in what we both have been able to do, manage and achieve. It is not that we are ungrateful or that achieving our goal and recognising the amazing generosity of people that have chosen to help and contribute is not a priority to either of us...because it really is. We both are grateful...we both are humbled but we are both struggling on a daily basis at the moment with managing a very complex and difficult life and situation.
We would like to firstly thank Erin Yarwood from E fitness and her family; for showing me and Isabella kindness..for showing us both a genuine empathetic and compassionate concern for our misfortunes...for choosing to reach out to us, organise fundraisers, for selflessly caring when she really didn’t have to and many choose not to. Erin and her family restored something in me that was dying and I do not have the words to explain the gratitude and appreciation and love I feel for her and her family. With fundraisers organised by Erin and contributions from many family, friends, and strangers our go fund me page has raised almost $6000. Additionally to this; the Brisbane Broncos have given Isabella $4900 towards the purchase of a suitable vehicle, the Aussie Kids Charity has donated $7000, and the current vehicle government scheme entitles Isabella to $8000 towards this goal. We have additionally applied to two other charities that assist sick children and hope that we will be successful in securing another $10000 between them. This would bring us so close to what we need...about $4000 short of what we need. The specialists prescribing Isabella’s equipment including the vehicle have found a suitable vehicle that has been approved and quoted at $42’000 and are working very hard to secure this and make it a reality for Issy. We wanted to update and thank everybody who has taken the time to provide love, donations or support to us both during these last few months - we are both truly grateful.

With Love - Lauren and Issy x

Issy & I wanted to post a little update to send our biggest and most heartfelt thanks for all the amazing support we've received on this journey so far. We are humbled by the donations received to date and no matter how big or small the contribution it is so wonderful to experience the warmth of our community, and to know we are moving towards our goal.

The Cerebral Palsy League is continuing to assist us in approaching various organisations in the local community who may be able to contribute or help us with fundraising initiatives. We are very grateful for the assistance, as it is proving to be an overwhelming task to try and raise money in what is already a busy day for us. Issy continues to bring joy and light, and today Jack from nation wide mobility vehicles stopped by and allowed us a little drive of a wheelchair vehicle. It is exciting to think that we are moving towards a space where Issy will be afforded more independence in her life. She loved the adventure.

We sincerely thank you for your ongoing support, assistance and well wishes as we continue to take active steps towards achieving our fund-raising goal.

Love,

Lauren & Issy x
☺️❤️
