Andrea's Medical Fund
Some of you may or may not know, but Andrea was in a very serious accident on Saturday evening, June 17th and she is currently in the ICU at Harborview. She will eventually be okay, but she has a long road to recovery. From what we have pieced together, here is what happened...
She and a friend were out Jeeping at Evan's Creek on the 520 trail with a couple of other rigs. The back tires started slipping and the Jeep rolled off the edge of about a 1000' cliff. Andrea was ejected about 350' down, where she layed for several hours before rescuers were able to reach her. A couple of good Samaritans sat with her with blankets and water, while another drove down to call 911 for help. When help finally arrived, she was pulled up to the road and driven to Wilkeson, where she was intubated and airlifted to Harborview. Upon arrival, she was taken into emergency surgery due to internal bleeding. The surgeons removed her spleen, which stopped the bleeding. She is pretty heavily sedated and still intubated, until they can get her in for additional surgeries. She has a broken arm (up by her shoulder), pelvis and she broke almost all of her ribs. Fortunately, there are no head injuries and she understands what is going on. She was even able to communicate with us a bit on Sunday afternoon and in true Andrea fashion, she flipped us the bird. Haha...
Since she's still in ICU, there are no visitors allowed quite yet. We will be sure to update everyone as she progresses and once she moves out of the ICU.
Until then, this is how you can help! The medical bills alone will be astronomical and she will be unable to work for quite some time. So anything you can do to help is much appreciated! Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers ♡ I know it also means a lot to Andrea.
I was just completely and absolutely overcome by how fucking happy I am to be alive!! My body is completely covered in bruises and I hurt like hell, I miss my roommates and my work people and my Rockstar friends. I'm not jacked up on pain meds (unfortunately) and I am definitely not drunk.. just legitimately happy and ok with where I am in my life, I mean what's more legit than having a tie rod actually installed in my pelvis and a reclining bed with a sixth floor view of Seattle? No more pesky spleen to worry about and I got a cool new kitty to hang with.
Because of the fracture to her pelvis though, it will be quite a while before she's able to walk again. She had her first round of physical therapy yesterday, and she sat up on the edge of her bed for 45 minutes! It's the first time she's been able to sit up on her own since she got here. She also got a new set of wheels to roll around in until she's up and running! Once they are able to get the chair fitted for her, she'll be able to take a trip outside for some fresh air. So she's excited to get up and get a change of scenery.
All of your letters and comments have been received and we have been reading them to her (FYI - You can also email her anytime here: http://www.uwmedicine.org/patient-resources/email-patient). She loves hearing from everyone! There has been such an amazing outpouring of support and we know that everyone is anxious to see and talk to her. She will have to take things slowly though. Please just know that she is thinking about you and she will reach out as soon as she can. So thank you to everyone for your continued love, prayers and support! It really means a lot to Andrea and her whole family.
